A Strong Return to Form for the Borderlands Series

Borderlands 4 delivers exactly what the looter-shooter genre needed. The fully seamless open world (aside from transitions between the main map and Vault maps) is a massive improvement, with vibrant, well-designed areas that are genuinely fun to explore.

Enemy variety starts off a bit underwhelming — early encounters tend to feel repetitive — but things pick up around level 20. I began to see more diverse and interesting enemy types as I progressed, so hopefully that trend continues deeper into the game.

The loot system is one of the highlights. Blue and purple gear now feature multiple random rolls, making the hunt for the perfect item genuinely rewarding. Interestingly, it’s not all about legendary drops — many purple items can outperform legendaries unless the latter have a particularly game-changing effect. That said, I haven’t yet found any legendary items with that real “wow” factor — the kind that make you completely rethink your loadout. Depending on your playstyle, this could be seen as either a positive (more balance across rarities) or a downside (less excitement around legendary loot).

As for the rest: the humor is classic Borderlands, the quests are engaging, and the story has been solid so far. The characters are likeable, and while no one quite rivals Handsome Jack as an all-time great villain, this entry's antagonist is definitely a step up from what we saw in Borderlands 3.

Overall: highly recommended. A worthy addition to the franchise and a strong step forward for open-world looter-shooters.

this game is awesome but the grind is painful!

If you like good games, this is the game for you. Probably the best ARPG I have ever played in my life, amazing main story campaign, amazing end game systems, you can use currency to "craft" gear by adding or changing affixes on items, and much more than all of that. This is a must own game without a doubt.

Wow what an awesome game! First time through I had a sick deck and beat the dungeon! Highly recommended lots of replayability and deck building strategies.
