About april time last year, a friend and I started to make games using pixel art. At first I was trying to make do with GIMP, but it sorta sucked for what I was trying to do. After struggling with it for months, I remembered seeing a stream from Jay Tholen (the mastermind behind Dropsy) and saw that he was using a dedicated pixel art program. After trawling through his twitter stream, I found out it was Aseprite. I found out it was open source, so wanting to put it through it's paces, I built it from source and gave it a whirl.

Instantly I was hooked. It made drawing things so much easier! After building from source for a few weeks, I decided that it was easily worth the $10 that David was asking so went ahead and bought it.

Since I've started using it, we've released two games and made one more as a leaving gift for someone at our day job. If it weren't for Aseprite making it so easy, I doubt we would have gotten them out as quick as we did.
