- Two hundred years ago, the House of Tohsaka, in collaboration with the Makiri and the Einzberns, were able to create the Fuyuki Holy Grail War. The land in this city, which possessed the second largest spiritual energy in all of Japan, belonged to Rin's ancestor, Tosaka Nagato; according to the will of the Einzberns, he provided his lands as a battlefield for current and future Wars. Nagato was a Christian and also a student of Zelretch; this gave him significant influence in both the Mage's Association and the Church, allowing the Tohsaka family to participate in the Holy Grail Wars without harassment from any organization.

- Rin was raised as the successor to her family's magic, and her father instructed her to put magical priorities above her own. Ten years ago, Tokiomi Tohsaka was chosen as the Master in the Fourth Holy Grail War, and therefore Rin was tasked with taking care of Tohsaka's condition until his return. Her mother, Tosaka Aoi, was mentally degraded after the war, so the family's affairs were transferred to Kotomina Kireyu. After her father was killed, Rin continues to improve her skills under the guidance of Kirei. To distract herself from her personal life, Rin diligently sought to earn the admiration of her peers, although in fact she is stingy, lazy, and "boyish." The rights to the Tohsaka lands after Tokiomi's death were inherited by Aoi, and after her death by Rin. Kirei manages them as Rin's guardian, but due to his reckless and rough management, most of the valuables ended up in the hands of others. It is possible that he believed that wealth had a bad effect on her upbringing, and pursued the principle of humility and poverty.

- Although Rin is outraged by the sacrifices she had to make for the sake of tradition, she is very competitive and aspires to be an experienced and capable magician. She was very disappointed to call Archer and even quarreled with him; however, the two soon reconciled, put aside their differences and quickly got along.

- At first glance, Makima is a kind, gentle, sociable and friendly woman who usually smiles all the time and behaves calmly and confidently even during a crisis, talking to her subordinates in a professional tone. Since her appearance is almost identical to that of a human, she avoids revealing her demonic nature to most of her subordinates and for most of the series impersonates a person who has entered into a contract with a demon, rather than the demon itself. However, this is just a facade that she uses to achieve her ultimate goal. After Aki Hayakawa's death, Makima begins to reveal his true identity to Denji. Makima's true face is Machiavellianism and prudence, she sees others as nothing more than "dogs" whom she can use as much as she wants and who must obey her without hesitation.

- Makima has shown herself to be an extremely cunning, cold, and manipulative person, controlling Dangi with promises of romantic and sexual relationships, as well as threatening him with total destruction if he disobeys her. Ruthless and usually impartial, she will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals, even at the cost of the lives of the people she is supposed to protect.

- Makima also realizes that he is not a good person and considers himself a "necessary evil"; a weapon under the control of the Japanese government, just like the Demon Cannon, which is under the control of the American government. She is not afraid that her plans will fail, because no matter if her plans fail or succeed, she will almost always achieve what she wants.

- Makima is an extreme fan of the Chainsaw Man, the "Hero of Hell." Fascinated by his ability to destroy the embodied concept of a demon by absorbing it, she stated that her goal was to subjugate the Chainsaw Man to her control in order to use his abilities to create an ideal world without fear, death, and "bad" movies. However, failure is also acceptable, as it means that she will be eaten, which, in her opinion, is very honorable.

- However, Makima's true goal was to forever connect with Pochita and live a happy life with him. She always dreamed of something like a family, being unable to create equal and meaningful relationships like a control demon.
