A dark, gritty, and somewhat challenging introduction into the Fallout Universe. like most, I didn't play this game first. My introduction was New Vegas. However, at the time of writing this review, I just beat my first playthrough. Though I was always hesitant to play it, I'm glad I stuck through it to the end this time.

This game can be very challenging to new fans of the series, and does have a slight learning curve. Its isometric style with turn based controls can be confusing to understand at first. However, if you get passed that learning curve, and stick with it a few hours, the game starts to open up and become very rewarding. Like the 3D games, you'll slowly start to become more and more powerful. By the end, I was 1-3 shotting any enemy that fought me with a plasma rifle while wearing power armor.

If you're looking to challenge yourself, and are not afraid of reading, then I can't recommend this game enough. It is unforgiving with its combat as well as the choices you make, and does not hold your hand. You are going to have to save often, pay attention to crucial information characters give you, and may need some guides like I did, but aside from that, Fallout 1 is an amazing RPG and deserves more love from the community.

The game itself is fine. The game's optimization and stability is a joke.
The fact that Bethesda shills excuse a game that can't even get passed the start screen with no mods on a fresh install, unless they install third party software, is insane. This game serves as just another example that if it wasn't for Bethesda's passionate modding community, they'd be absolutely screwed as a company, because all their game's are horrendously unstable. At least New Vegas can start when I play it. Meanwhile, This game REQUIRES a mod in order to get passed the start screen.

I like Fallout 3, I think it's a serviceable introduction to modern Fallout games, and can provide hundreds of hours of fun and replay ability. However, I hate Bethesda and some of the diehard fans who think that it's just ok that people are forced to tinker with the game files or download 3rd party software in order to fix this broken game.

If you experience crashes on startup without any mods installed then this tutorial helped me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq4hJebpjjU&t=59s

A horribly Ported Game. It took me 30 minutes for the game to even load up and start. Once it did, the cut-scenes froze repeatedly, and even made the characters freeze as well as T-pose within them and go out of sync with the dialogue. The audio even constantly cut out within the cut scenes. On top of that, there were many glitches that cause the game to bug out and make my character go out of bounds and break the mission which forced constant restarts. This was all in the very first mission of the game and was downright comical in how broken it was. The funny thing is, when I was in combat the game ran fine, and I had no frame drops or hiccups. However, whenever a cutscene or scripted event happens, it totally breaks. I have no idea how some people got this game to run on their Pc's. I have an RTX 4080 with 32 GB of RAM and it can't even handle it.
This by far, is one of the worse ports I've ever played, and I can't even review anything beyond the opening mission like story, open world, or even a deeper look at combat because of how terrible the first hour was.

I refunded it, and I can't recommend this to anyone on PC.

In cases like this, I wish steam had a "mixed/neutral" rating for reviews. I like the game but it has some things that bother me personally.

This game plays and looks very well in my opinion, and if you're new to the Dead Rising Franchise, it can be a very fun experience. It's an open world sandbox experience that lets you mess around killing zombies in various ways much like the original while offering lots of replay value and room for challenge runs and multiple endings. In fact, it's almost a one-to-one remake/remaster of the first.

However, if you're a veteran of the series like me ( and care a LOT about voice acting) then I can't guarantee you'll like this game. Firstly, and in my opinion, the worst thing about this game is the abysmal voice acting from the majority of the cast. What made the OG way more memorable was the line delivery of the original VA's, and the new actors they hired for this game sound like they are phoning in all their lines. It's very jarring when compared to the original, and takes me out of the experience every time someone talks in scenes. It doesn't help that the original voice actor for Frank is also missing again.
Other than some notable standouts like Adam "The Clown" or the new survivor dialogue, the voice acting is inferior to the OG and may or may not put you off if you're a returning player.

Though if you don't care about that, or are new to the franchise, then all the other criticisms I have for this game are nitpicks and come down to personal preference. Such as the character models, may or may not bother you, like Frank or Brad's faces. Or the soft Censorship of some cut-scenes, characters, and the camera mechanics. Plus there have been reports of optimization/performance issues, however, I've not encountered any during my playtime.

Honestly, this version of the game favors new players to the series more than it does to returning veterans. Yes, it adds some very nice quality of life updates and a couple of convenient game mechanics. However, besides the issues I've stated above, it's straight up a copy and paste of the OG Dead Rising with a graphics overhaul. I'd wait for a sale or just play the original.
The OG has dated mechanics, but it's also cheaper, has less storage space, and better voice acting.

I think it comes down to what you value more.

I can't remember quitting a game solely due to how annoying the main character's commentary is, but this game has done it. Nevermind the infinitely respawning enemies, convoluted story, and the boring open world exploration. The main character alone forced me to stop playing because I couldn't stand the constant barrage of cheesy, edgy, and downright cringe commentary he yaps on about literally every time you enter a new area or interact with something.

Just go play Bioshock. It's cheaper, has better exploration , level design, and story. Plus the main character doesn't speak.

If you're getting this game then you NEED to join the community Discord in order to somewhat reliably find and coordinate games, and when you do, add as many people who play this game to your friends list. If you don't want to do that, then you're going to need a large group of friends of at least 10 who are willing to play with you. If you don't have friends and don't want to join the Discord then DO NOT BUY THIS GAME . 99% of its player base is gone and most of the game modes are dead. You'll be lucky to find a full lobby in the 12 player game modes. You may as well get it on console. At least that version has more players.

If that doesn't bother you, and you'd still like to get this game to recapture that 2015 nostalgia, then you need to understand that you'll be at a MAJOR disadvantage for most of your experience. The only people left are Max level tryhards who have all the best weapons and starcards in the game, or hackers that ruin what little fun you can still have in this game. You'll be dying a LOT, and half the time there's nothing you can do about it as a new player, because you have nothing unlocked. Without people playing on the servers regularly and the toxic sweatlords who insist on spawn camping against newer players, the grind is going to be a huge game of patience and luck.

The worst part for me personally, is that I like this game more than Battlefront 2 (2017). This game has many problems but despite all its issues, it didn't deserve the fate it got. Unfortunately, it's the same fate that EA games get on a regular basis, and that it's abandoned and left to die like all the rest..

If you want a fun casual Star Wars online multiplayer experience, then you're going to be sorely disappointed. Unless you have friends to coordinate with, this game is going to be nothing more than a broken, glitchy, sweat-fest among the players who are still around. If that doesn't bother you, then the hackers will, because much like Battlefront (2015) this game is plagued with them. On top of all that, half the game modes are dead and don't have enough people playing them, as well as no server browser or community servers. The only game modes that are active is the Hero modes, Galactic Assault, and Supremacy. Plus, the majority of the time you'll only be playing Clone Wars maps. It's rare that the game puts you in the "Age of Rebellion" maps and even rarer that you'll get put in the "Age of resistance" maps. So I hope you REALLY like The Clone Wars, because that's going to be most of your experience.

If that doesn't bother you, then you'll also have to contend with the un-fun and unbalanced meta that this game provides. Reinforcements are overpowered and overused, Objectives are poorly placed and camped on, Heroes will dominate most of the matches, your team can easily be spawn trapped, and the majority of the matches you get into will be a one-sided stomp-fest. It's a 50/50 chance if it's your team doing the stomping. This, along with max leveled star cards and the high leveled players who play this game religiously, just encourages everyone to play cheaply. Thus, making every match feel like a rinse and repeat of the last one. No variety and no creativity on how to play the game, unless you're ok with dying over and over.

If you're still wanting to get this game, then I recommend trying the single player modes and install some mods instead. Unlike Battlefront (2015), there's enough content in the single player for some fun to be had there. However, at that point you should get this game when it's on sale. If you ask me though, you'll have more fun playing any of the other Star Wars games out there like Jedi Fallen Order or KOTOR.

This game unfortunately, is yet another example of EA having the resources to make an amazing game, but choosing not to. They could've kept this game alive, and continuously added content such as maps, weapons, heroes, and game modes. However, in classic EA fashion, they make a game and despite all its issues plaguing it or the potential to improve upon it, abandon it and leave it to die so they can pursue another game they'll inevitably screw up too. This whole game's life cycle was from 2017-2020, and once they realized that they couldn't make money from loot boxes, abandoned it once they fulfilled the minimum of their obligations.

Unless you just want to mod the single player modes, DO NOT GET THIS GAME .

It'll just make you wish you could play something better...

After the initial "performance fixes" I've beaten this game multiple times. Had around a 50-80 fps experience with no crashes. It's a great game that stays very faithful to the original game while also still managing to be fresh and keep you on your toes.
Problem is, those "performance fixes" only partially fixed the problem. The game still suffers from immense stuttering, fps drops, horrible screen tears if you have v-sync off, and now with the newest driver updates, CONSTANT crashes. The solutions I've seen from the community have temporary fixes such as deleting your cache in the game files, and although it does help, it doesn't fix the issue (at least not for me). After around 30 min of game time it still hard crashes. One crash made me restart my whole computer.

The fact that the devs and EA haven't offered an update or comment to address these issues yet is honestly baffling and quite frankly worrying if they want this game to stand the test of time like the original did. If it weren't for the performance issues this would be a damn near perfect game. However, as long as these issues persist, I can't in good conscience recommend this game to ANYONE with a Mid-Tier PC build or lower. I'm on an RTX 4080 with 32GB and I still get stuttering and frame drops when going to a new area of the map.
Until then, it'll just stay as yet another reminder as to why EA and anything affiliated with them is terrible in one form or another.

Update : the Driver Latest updates have apparently fixed the crashing for most players. However, there are still players in the community who still have issues with regular crashes or fps drops. Until EA/ Motive themselves come up with an update or fix, I will still keep my negative review for this game due to the horrible communication or lack thereof from the people who made the game. They took their money and ran, and until they themselves update it, my points in my review still stand. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game but the stability really needs to be worked on.

Single player:
If you're going to only get this game for single player, it's a relatively fun DBZ game. It has a large cast of characters and a unique storyline as well as decent character customization that gives it some replay ability. Though I am not a fan of some of the game mechanics such as the stamina system, if you spend time in training mode and learn some combos with your favorite characters, it can be somewhat enjoyable. The other issue is that nearly half of the cast is locked behind pay walls. However, the game on PC is amplified if you're using mods. The modding community has created a large host of mods with unique characters, move sets, maps, ect that make the game really fun. So if single player, modding, and grinding for items in quests is your goal then this game is at least worth looking into.

Online Multiplayer:
If you're getting this game specifically for multiplayer then this game is an absolute joke and I wouldn't even bother. First off, the majority of players on PC are getting it for the mods so good luck finding people to play with on a consistent basis. Secondly, if you do find people to match against 9-1 odds that the match will be so laggy your combos (that you know work) will drop. Not to mention the hit delay and false hit confirms that come with it. Thirdly, if you manage to get past all of that, then you'll have to contend with players who use cheap and overpowered builds that either do a ridiculous amount of damage, or are so annoying to fight against that rage quitting is actually preferable. This game both on PC and Console has a large outstanding toxic playerbase that only cares about getting an easy W and not having fun. It's rare that you find someone who just wants a nice casual DBZ fight with their fav characters from the show. So if that's what you want this game for, then good luck to you.
However, if you have a group of friends who like playing with you for quests, raids, and 1v1"s then I'd say that's the only exception where online is ok.

Rating (IMO) : All in all I'd give this game a 6/10. if it wasn't for the terrible online aspect of the game and some of the fighting mechanics I'd consider this to be one of the greatest DBZ games ever made. However, due to the terrible online aspect, horrible netcode, nearly half of the characters and content being locked behind paywalls, and some fighting mechanics, in my eyes it doesn't even come up in the conversation of "best DBZ game". It's ok and fun when it's fun, but when it's not, it's absolutely TERRIBLE.
