This game is simultaneously the best team shooter out there and also the biggest pain in the ass sometimes. It has:
• A thriving community full of helpful and kind people [citation needed],
• A larger map pool than anything you have ever seen (seriously, I've been playing this game for nearly 2500 hours and I still haven't played some maps),
• A variety of weapons and weapon combinations each with their own play-style,
• A high skill ceiling for each of its nine classes,
• (Community-made) updates every year,
• Thousands of cosmetics, weapon skins and customization options which are tradeable,
• A variety of modes to enjoy, both PvP and PvE,
• Community servers with varying levels for modding to spice up your game sometimes,
• A functioning economy around the cosmetics with a currency(that is not at all being inflated day after day),
• A thriving youtube culture filled with great people who actively help the community through information or entertainment,
It ALSO has:
• Insane amounts of bots (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell, the bots. I'm not going to explain what they are. It's been in articles and has been covered by your favorite youtuber),
• Hackers (because every team shooter has them),
• A minority of the fanbase who you'll absolutely wish to kill after any prolonged interaction with them,
• Since there's an economy and in-game trade, you can bet your ass there's scammers,
• A lack of any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ support from the devs (seriously, it's become a joke at this point),
• r/tf2 (because they run every good joke into the ground. Yes, I'm also a part of it and wouldn't have it any other way),
• A lack of community servers that simply host the unmodded game,
• No communication in the game's official servers for free-to-play players who haven't bought the premium version,
• A complete joke of a competitive system (I...haven't even touched comp and even I know how bad it is),

There are some pros and cons that I have missed but these are the most glaringly obvious ones. Now, for a game I adore and think is an absolute meme, was this an overly serious review? Yes. Yes, it was. Is it better than writing a one-line joke? Depends on the joke. Will I write this again? Absolutely.

I've come to understand one thing after so many hours of playing this game: simply being an enjoyable game isn't enough to make it a timeless masterpiece. It needs a dedicated community, a dev team that interacts with the fans in a fun way, it needs to have replayability and some other things that I'm not smart enough to recall. Despite one of those things being lost, the other things are definitely why this 16-year-old game is still going as strong as it is today.

10/10, pootis POW!
