Too little, too late to save the franchise for me. Dying Light 1 is in my top 5 games of all time, and will stay there. Whoever was the game director must be long gone because DL2 was more about Ubisoft style map check-marks than exploration and parkour. With DLTB, they appear to have tried to right the ship, but after having to run back across most of the map for a fetch quest, over the same type of rooftops that were in DL2, I knew I wouldn't enjoy it any further. Another shame to add to the pile of game franchises that put more into profit returns than giving their customers a fun experience. RIP Techland. At least i can still play the first game.

Once you've seen most of the game mechanics, there isn't much left to do. Only purchase if you plan on playing it like a single player game.

Early Access Review
It's just a slog. Feels like homework. It can be fun at times but it's over-engineered in the way early World of Warcraft and NES games were. I'm not allowed to have fun because I'll blow through the content too quickly. I guess since there are no leagues yet, the "we don't care if you take a break from zooming through content since we know you'll be back" doesn't apply here.

Cozy and never boring, lots of charm and heart. Scratches that collectathon / survival itch without becoming tedious. Highly recommended!

*Edit - They walked it back

The change to requiring a PSN account doesn't affect me personally. I am giving this game a negative review for the fact that there are people out there who cannot, or won't sign up for a PSN account that will lose access to this game once the requirement goes into effect. This isn't cool and my review will remain unchanged until Sony walks this back.

Game is fun. If you are like me and love the core loop of killing enemies, looting, and bringing it back to your base, then you'll have a good time here. You will likely want to sub to Fallout 1st eventually as the junk stash and private servers can be very helpful. There is now enough content (+ more coming in the Ohio update) to keep me busy and entertained. Definitely recommend.

Edit - yeah, I take it all back. Apparently Bethesda engineers got the Microsoft "vibe coding with AI" memo from Satya Nadella and vibe coded themselves into blowing up the servers for 24 hours after the launch of the new update. One step forward, two steps back. Sigh. I'm an idiot.

There are very few games that have disappointed me as much as Starfield did. I can count them on one hand. One of those just happens to be Fallout 76. Bethesda games since the release of Oblivion meant that I was getting a game that I could lose myself in for hours, days and even weeks. Just wandering around, ignoring the main quest while I discovered points of interest and the characters and loot within them.

The thing with Starfield is that all of that stuff is locked behind main story missions. Which might be OK, except for the fact that they start to become a chore after some hours of playtime. I've loved Bethesda's games up until Fallout 76 and Starfield because I could just screw around and have fun. Not anymore I guess. It's really disappointing that they forgot what so many of us loved about their games, and by the looks of the developers doing damage control in the reviews, they'd rather double down on their mistakes than tell us where they went wrong. I am not exaggerating when I say that their games are the most highly anticipated games I've ever played in the last 40 years. Well they were anyway. It's a damn shame.

The only thing better than the incredible gun-play and satisfying rogue-lite mechanics is the astonishingly good soundtrack. I'm also on a ton of pain meds from my knee surgery two hours ago, so this review might be over the top. Still, it's a thumbs up.
