To be honest I give it a month before everyone comes back, I'm relatively neutral on VRChat and this is clearly them working towards getting creator trust because one of the biggest complaints I hear from people who do 3D work for other platforms in the metaverse is that it's trivial to get your work cloned. You're going to end up seeing people happier to create avatars for vrchat if their stuff doesn't end up on ripperstore within 48 hours.

It's just that the company went about it in the most hamfisted way, rather than "hey guys, what mods do you use and would you like to see these features officially in the game?" it's like "hey your mods don't work anymore and we don't care" is why everyone ran. However they're not stupid and will be adding a lot of these features back in.

Sadly the alternatives are worse when it comes to not caring about the userbase, which is why many people will be back sooner than later.

It's largely unchanged if you dont use mods, I haven't noticed a performance drop at all.


Time will tell if the company plans on fixing their mistake, which would be more than most companies do these days.

edit: as of 06/02/2023, they added back mod only features and then some. They weren't being malicious, most of the people who were mad at the end of the day and gassing people up were rippers.

I wanted to love this, I really did. The engine is amazing and filled with tons of potential. But that's just it. It's all potential. A public tech demo. The company behind it is poorly ran and mismanaged. It's so badly mismanaged that the company is effectively split in two. If you don't take a side you may find yourself in the cold. Do not recommend any ideas you may have to improve the platform, you may find yourself being attacked for saying anything. There is a general hostility toward anyone who isn't a member of the furry community on here. You will find yourself being excluded if you're not part of it, or the weird cult of personality that seems to pervade the platform.

The only community on here that is worth checking out is the Japanese community and the creative community who take part of the competition every Sunday. The discord and the telegram are extremely toxic and unwelcoming. I used to not be able to recommend this enough to people. Now after the community schism in January of 2022, I would recommend staying far away.

The depressing side of this is that in the time since the last development release, it has fallen far behind Vrchat and other VR platforms that have since implemented many of the features that made Neos unique. It still has one thing over the other platforms and that's real-time collaboration and building. But I suspect it won't be long before that's no longer the case.

It's tf2. just play it. It's better than most modern games and outlived its predecessors. Unless you're talking about CS 1.6, that beast will only die once its playerbase does. The same will happen to tf2.
