Don't let my playtime on here fool you. I own this game on every console it's been released on with total playtime likely in the thousands of hours.

Nobody wants to read an essay on here so for those of you just wanting a yay or Jay I'd say get this game, get it now!

For those looking for a bit more detail I can say that prior to playing world I was convinced the Monster Hunter series had been perfected. Yes it was obtuse and incredibly had an extremely high barrier to entry but for those who took the time to learn it's systems you were rewarded with a unfathomablely deep game of overlapping machanics and pitch perfect progression.

Then World came along and initially I though they had just dumbed everything down to attract mainstream appeal. It didn't take long for me to realise this was not the case. MHW still had insane levels of intricate overlapping systems and a near perfect sense of power progression.

There are many different zones/biomea to explore and the expansion is huge should the rest of the game grab you. A (big) bucket load of monsters to hunt and a story (probably the weakest part of the game).

If I had to balance this review with a criticism it would likely fall on the fairly generic story combined with the shapeless tofu that is the games 'big bad'. It's not a deal breaker though and being honest, I don't think most people play these games for the story. It's certainly passable but it's not the kind of thing that will keep you awake at night asking the big questions.

Dev support has now ended for this game although they should be applauded for the amount of time they continued to release new content. Each season was catered for in some form (Halloween, Christmas etc.) and thankfully these have now just been autoscheduled to repeat along with all the other events so newcomers won't be missing out on anything for not being around the first time.

Final note regarding Steamdeck compatibility. I obviously haven't put a huge amount of time into the game but from what I've seen so far the game runs perfectly and still looks beautiful. Button mapping is exactly as you would expect and is good to go as soon as you boot up.

Go get this game if you are even remotely interested in this genre. You won't be disappointed.

Put simply, if you're a fan of driving trucks or just driving sims in general this may be the game for you. You can literally lose hours of your life playing this game and in all honesty, I regret none of it. Whether you like your driving casual and relaxing or so simulated you can smell the leather on the steering wheel ETS2 has you covered with an array of options to play in any way that suits you.

Peripheral support is vast and the deeper you want to go with it the more you'll get from the driving. I personally use an Xbox 360 wired controller purely for convenience but I've tried a full steering wheel, gears and pedal setup and it was next level. The cost of entry varies so start cheap and work your way up. You'll enjoy it whichever method you opt for.

SCS (makers of this game) are one of those rare companies that treat their customers with respect and do not choose to gouge them of their money at every opportunity. Several years after its release they are still patching and updating the game. This comes in the form of free version updates and paid for expansions ranging from the cheap paint packs and cosmetic to the slightly more expensive (but still cheap) map expansions which are worth every penny/dollar/euro/monopoly money.

I haven't even touched on the modding scene. SCS are very open and welcoming to the modding community which has allowed it to grow and thrive. The choices are endless from reskins of vehicles and buildings right through to entire continents being added to the already huge vanilla map. I would highly recommend checking out Promods if you decide to go down this route as they are at the absolute top of their game when it comes to expanding and diversifying the map.

I could literally write a full essay on why I think you should buy this game but if you're reading this I suspect you are already leaning toward a purchase. Take the plunge, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Once you're hooked you'll get more than your monies worth!
