Despite the presentation, beautiful art and 90's references to several RPGs, this game falls short with uninteresting story, boring combat mechanics, irrelevant quest-lines and over-the-top names which doesn't really add anything but in paper looks so cool.

I'm really disappointed with this one, as I was looking for playing it several years ago.
It just blows me how plain this game is, despite a lot of work on the artistic and technological side, it is a very bleak shadow of the great 16-bit RPGs of the 90's era, Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia/Time, Final Fantasy, etc.

I think one of the biggest mistakes of this title is that is constantly pretending to be something: there are story arcs with bloated names and concepts which are not a tiny-little-bit relevant to the main story in any coherent way, but the game forces to shovel to your throat because that way it can pretend to be complex and mature and whatever. It is not. I'm getting FF XIII vibes constantly, as the main story being described in two lines, but it seems the game refuses to do so.

Except two or three characters, you can expect most of the rooster to be plain and revolve around the very same concept I said before. Lots of efforts trying to have comical characters with cringy personalities that takes more than gives. The main characters' personality evolves in the first two hours of story, then absolutely halts for no reason.

Story aside, let's talk about combat. Oh, the oversimplification really did hurt this one. The gameplay lacks any kind of depth and doesn't require any special thinking, mostly due to their effort to mimic Chrono Trigger but making equipment plain and stat-focused. In the end 90% of the time you are looking to a new weapon or armor not for the element, buff or anything, just for the tiny increase in bonk-damage. The game also favors timing for the attacks and blocks but the increase in damage/defense is so negligible that doesn't really add anything. The game also requires extreme backtracking to learn skills to prevent certain turn-required boss attacks, which I think it's really stupid as a design.

Overall, this game just doesn't add up. It has some very bright points in the art and animation side, but other than that it's just a shell of a former 90's RPG. It tries really hard, but nothing else.
