Early Access Review
Absolutely delightful atmosphere. Fantastic gameplay. Great replayability. The difficulties scale nicely and you can really tune in how much of a challenge you want with the run and portal modifiers. Even in early access, there's a ton of content to unlock.

Perfectly recreates the feeling of the original with some improvements and expansions from RoR2 and some brand new content, too. Great, brutal fun regardless of if you're returning to the series or this is your first RoR game.

Still fun with friends years later. Lots of content added over its lifetime but you have to buy most of it separately. Worth it on sale.

It's more Halo. Missing a fair bit of the polish, though.

It's wacky. It's silly. The physics misbehave in the best ways. Best of all, you can play it with your friends. Great, chaotic fun.

This game is terrible and amazing at the same time. Think Mario Kart, but with mostly real people, on tracks inspired by real race tracks and you've got an inkling of what this game is like. There are, of course, some of the same basic power ups that will help you or hurt your opponents. Characters do all sorts of silly things, especially when you win a series. You can customize a little bit of your car. Really, it's a wonderful game, but for some reason it makes you think it's terrible while you're having so much fun. I just can't explain it.

This game is what arcade games strive to be: easy to learn, but difficult to master. This super simple eight button control setup takes seconds for any veteran game to figure out and even someone new to games should be able to understand it in under a minute. Four buttons to move, four buttons to shoot. What could be easier? While each map starts out nice and easy with some slow enemies that aren't very harmful, the pace picks up fairly quickly, introducing faster and more complicated enemies. With the chain-combo and hit streak mechanics, this is both a blessing and a curse. The game rewards you for pulling off risky maneuvers, but itsn't going to hand you lots of opportunities for easy points. I keep finding myself backing into a corner trying to lure large groups of basic enemies together to get one large combo just to get hit from behind by a newly-spawned enemy from a spot I just wasn't paying enough attention to. After that, I have to fight to take back any chunk of the map I can so that I'm not locked into a tiny space and picked off easily by even the most basic enemies.

Playing enough arcade mode on a given map will unlock a new map to enjoy and spice up your experience. The different shapes and spawn points of the map add a lot of variety to the gameplay, though I doubt anyone has played quite the same game twice on any given map. There are also two distinct game modes. You can face off against the waves of computer-controlled enemies or compete in a one-on-one or two-on-two deathmatch to prove who really has the faster reflexes and more refined control. Of course, we can't forget to mention that you don't have to face the horde alone. Break out the second controller and bring your friend into the fray with you in local or online co-op arcade mode.

As with any true arcade game, there are leaderboards for each map to see how your skills stack up against the rest with a convenient filter to show either the world rankings or just your friends. The desire to climb the leaderboard and prove your skill to the world is as strong with this game as any other I've played; perhaps even stronger. I very strongly considered allowing myself to be late to work because I thought I might be able to beat a score higher than my own.

More important than anything else, though, is that this game is a lot of fun. What more can you ask for?

Great game. It'd got dungeons and dragons and magic and an immersive story and really solid graphics and stuff. Lovely open world. Plenty of random events. Tons of quests. Lots of unique NPCs. Couple of joinable factions. Lots and lots of armor and weapons, most of which can be crafted and/or enchanted. Some decent DLC. Lore out the wazoo. Books with canon lore in them. It's got it all. Oh, and a massive community that loves to make mods ranging from reskins to remodels to completely new items to new questlines to new areas.

What's not to love? I'll tell you what's not to love. It's hard to put down. You'll find yourself enjoying the game too much and won't be able to stop playing.

It's worth however much they're asking for it at the time.
