There is a simple test for moral seriousness: do the rules change when the person doing the act wears a badge, holds office, or recites legal language?

If theft becomes taxation, kidnapping becomes arrest, extortion becomes compliance, and mass killing becomes war merely by changing the costume, then the problem is not only political.
It is moral confusion.
