Twin-Stix: For fans of twin-stick shooters

Community group for fans of various twin-stick shooters and top-down shooters. I also update the Twin-Stix Curator Page, which is related but sort of a separate entity.

While this includes games with online co-op, it's not limited to those. I like to highlight shooters of various types: twin-stick, top-down, isometric and roguelites with those camera-view perspectives.

[Twin-Stix NEWS] BLACKOUT: Zero Point demo releasing today (online co-op supported)

Although I don't usually post side-scrollers in Twin-Stix, I made an exception for BLACKOUT: Zero Point, a Korean dev team's side-scroller with 360-degree aiming and what appear to be Helldivers-style mission objectives. It's a sci-fi set game, battling space alien bugs and mutations.

A demo is due out in just few more hours tonight (Thurs., July 31).

Although the game is playable solo, the demo supports online co-op for up to 4 players, and I'll be trying to get some co-op games together. :) The demo is limited to 3 levels and just has a few different weapons and a couple support items, though my understanding is they're adding to those already in their internal dev build.

Twin-Stix Info Take: Interesting mix of twin-stick shooter with light tower defense aspects, featuring procedural level generation. The latter feature is played up on the game's website, but curiously not mentioned on its Steam store page.

The first handful of player reviews are mostly positive, but it's a little early to get a gauge on this. It's on my wishlist, but I'd like to read a few more player impressions first.

ANVIL demo extended through Sunday, Feb. 14

Four Square, developer of twin-stick shooter/roguelite ANVIl has extended its playable demo through Sunday, Feb. 14, due to popular demand. So give it a try if you haven't yet.

Although it was my favorite demo of the Feb. 3-9 games festival, it could use a lot of work on basic things we players want (level/minimap of some sort, rebindable keys, fixing controller bugs etc.), adjusting game features that aren't always fun (Alert Level systems) and perhaps adding "something to do" beyond monster mashing/skills upgrading (my pet peeve as fan of mission objectives-based twin-stick shooters like Helldivers).

An updated demo with online co-op is expected in June, and I think August-September is the target date for a Steam release. I'm excited to see what improvements, new features and gameplay mode additions the devs can make before hitting those dates.

I remember posting the first thread in Anvil's Steam forum last year, and there seemed literally zero interest in the title. The forum and Discord are very busy now, and people are even begging them not to 'retire' the demo. :) So they've built the hype, the dev has an audience. Now hopefully they will roll up their sleeves, go through the suggestions/feedback and hit ANVIL with the appropriate Hammers of hard work.

Synthetik 2 early access is a blast, but it doesn't yet have the ballyhooed, server-based, 4-player online co-op, and some key features like an in-game map aren't really working properly yet. It's very rough and crude around the edges, but when it clicks, it's great fun. :)

Feb. 10 news bit -- Korean dev Action Square has extended its Anvil demo through Feb. 14. :) This was a Steam games festival demo, which the dev originally intended to retire as of Feb. 9, in line with the festival's end date.

Synthetik Steam beta -- focus is on co-op but it presumably works in single player too -- should start around this Thursday (March 1).

I'll be mostly tied up with work next coupld of days. I hope to get in at least some Recommendation blurbs in the Curator section for some newer games (Tesa vs. Lovecraft) and older ones (Enter the Gungeon, Neuro Collider).

Hi, all. I created this group back in 2016 with the idea I was going to become a Curator for twin-stick shooter games. Now I'm wishing I'd called it "Blackjack's something or other," but since I'd had this group set up already I figured I'd finally start "curating" my old reviews here.
