WERE YOU EVER WISHING THAT U HAD THE LATEST NEWS ABOUT GAMING?

One thing horror-loving folks and yolks have been looking for almost since the advent of video games is an experience which would engage us on a deeper level than simply visually or aurally. Often games have done this through the use of atmosphere and experience, but what if a game could actually monitor your engagement and react accordingly?

That’s exactly what Nevermind, a new horror-adventure title recently released on Steam Early Access plans to do. And while I don’t know how successful they will be (although so far it has been positively received) it will no doubt have huge implications for the horror genre.

Developed by indie studio Flying Mollusc, Nevermind supports Intel RealSense camera support for biofeedback tracking, gesture detection and facial recognition. It also supports the Wild Divine IomPE, Garmin Heart Rate Chest Strap, and Mio LINK sensors, and currently has tentative support for all bluetooth-enabled heart rate trackers.

Combined, the biofeedback support gives Nevermind the ability to track your stress and anxiety levels and shape the game accordingly. If you let your stress and anxiety get the better of you, the game gets more difficult – if you get the better of your stress and anxiety, the game becomes easier. That seems like an odd way of doing to to me – it sounds like it rewards not engaging with the game, which seems like the opposite of what you’d want – but it certainly sounds interesting.
