Hey all,

After a long and hard thought process, I have decided to scrap the 2D version of 2118. After attempting to work on it, I realized that 2D does not give justice to the concept of the game, so I will be waiting a couple years until I have a larger team and a 3D engine to work with.

In the meantime, from now to around early September, I'm gonna start working on some small scale hobby games, the first being a top-down bullet-hell shooter (think Touhou, Jamestown, some arcade shooters, etc).

I'm not gonna talk too much about this game, but I would like to hear your opinions on a game mechanic that I'm testing out (look at the bold text if you want to get a quick summary):

In a typical bullet hell shooter, you have to pay attention to bullet patterns so you can dodge on time, which adds a good amount of difficulty, but other than that, it's simply mindless shooting and killing. I want to add a layer of depth and strategy (and difficulty because I want you all to go through Dark Souls levels of pain, mwahahaha), so I've been testing a mechanic where when the player uses certain attacks, they have to sacrifice some of their HP. I feel that this will make it so the player must pay a lot of attention to both the enemy AND themselves, rather than just paying attention to enemy attacks and dodging and shooting.
