We're a bunch of pilots from MeFightClub (www.mefightclub.com), and some other online places now, too, who like play Rise of Flight, DCS A-10C and Black Shark, Falcon BMS, and whatever other flying games come along that look like fun.

Rotato is what all good MeFights strive to be, so we named the squadron after that.

Uh... so what does it mean to be Rotato?

Good question.

Let's quote the explanation from the MeFightClub FAQ, shall we? Yes, let's.

"The mighty, voluble, effervescent and not-as-often-with-us-as-we'd-like herrdoktor, in many of his madcap pronouncements in the early days of MefightClub, repeatedly used the word 'rotato' for no other discernable reason than that it made him (and us) laugh. It was funny. We laughed, and we started using it too. It very quickly came to be understood as a shorthand for an easy-going, hilarious, fun-loving attitude that stood in direct opposition to taking-things-too-seriously, being more concerned about winning or losing than just having fun, and all the other negative, competitive attitudes around gaming that we collectively didn't want much part of. It swelled to a crescendo in 2009 or so, and now runs as a kind of undercurrent, a good-natured in-joke, and a way to express in a community shorthand the kind of positivity that we try to preserve. Because in-jokes are by their very nature exclusionary, much as we don't intend them to be, well: this explanation."

All clear now? No? Ok, then, here's more:

"OK, so what IS "rotato" behaviour? What kind of behaviour is encouraged on these here forums?

Since starting MFC, stav has insisted on a zero tolerance policy on sexism, racism, homophobia, and other types of discrimination. If you use any racial, religious, or homophobic slurs in an ongoing way, you may expect the banhammer of Thor to come whistling down out of the skies, if you continue after being warned. You shouldn't need to be warned. Like we said, MFC is conceived of as a mature, adult haven from the kind of thing that reigns in much of the rest of the gaming world. We don't need none o' that stuff. (That said, there have been precisely 3 bans in the history of MFC, and two of those were the same guy.)

We all understand jokes and like to make them. Edgy humour is fine, but if you are taking a chance of offending your fellow Mefighters with your comedy stylings, discretion is the better part of valor, here. We're not hardcore about this stuff, but if you consistently suggest that 'raping' the other team is your desideratum, or you think it's witty like Wilde to call someone a '♥♥♥', you might be hanging with the wrong group of gamers. Generally, abide by the golden rule and all will be good."
