I was told by Eddy about this little trick to bypass the patches and it does really work!

To bypass the patch simply right click on the game in library and select "properties".
Next select the tab "Local files".
On this tab you'll see four buttons, click the bottom two buttons - verify and defragment.
Once done simply click play and you'll be able to jump straight into the game!

This works as it forces steam to check for the latest version of the game and download it - a forced update if you will - rather than waiting for it to patch via Spiral Knights, the defragmentation just makes sure its all working at top quality!
