New Guys from The Old-School

Simple. We - Even in 2011 Play The classics. Whether it's The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Super Mario Bros, Joust, Pac-Man, Doom, Sonic, or even a little newer like Deus Ex, Half-Life, or Counter-Strike (Which STILL has running and used servers TODAY!). It doesn't matter- They're ALL Classics. Some games we still cherish might be older than WE ARE. Sure, We play the new games of today - But we NEVER forget where it all BEGAN. We are -{8-Bit}- Gamers.

My title wasn't intended to offend, but rather to recommend. Painkiller is Back, and I know what you're thinking: Same Old Song And Dance. But sometimes that's the BEAUTY OF IT. What if NoFX put out a POP/Electronica record after 20+ years of Punk?
No way; thats why we have "And Now For Something Completely Similar", and it's a good thing.

Graphics are pretty amazing these days, it's true. But what's also true is the fact that Motion Blur makes me want to punch Turkeys in turbo, except the Turkeys turn out to be puppies at a Church Rally. And also Post Processing in some instances ruin the map and destroy what was once beautiful. (Alice: Madness Returns is my recent example of this. Just turn it off, it's loads better without it.) Sometime's flashy and shiny can take away what really matters.

And in Painkiller, Over-killing graphics can take away from Over-killing the slew of Demons in your grill. SO: I'm proud to say, Painkiller Recurring Evil is confident that it's really the same old story, same old song and dance. And my friends, that's how it should be: Jump grunts, Stake shooting, and Turbo Ragdoll physics.

We like Kyle Katarn, Don't we? He DID steal those Death Star plans like a BOSS, right? We like the Jedi Knight Series, yes?

Well as we know our first time with Kyle was Dark Forces - Very old, very Doom, very 8 - Bit. Wolfenstein 3D: With Stormtroopers. I had heard of a Mod being developed a while back, but very far from completion, so I had forgotten- until recently I stubled onto it a lot more COMPLETED. The Mod was bringing old Dark Forces back to life in Jedi Knight style GFX- on the Jedi Academy base. It's still not 100%, but very well done enough to enjoy. As a celebration to this cool-ness, I changed the avatar to the New Kyle. Erm.. "Old Kyle", "Young/Old Kyle"... Whatever.

It is a complete (will be) re-make of Dark Forces where All is like the original, just with nicer looking textures and depth. ALL the original Sounds and Voiceovers are still there, so Don''t worry- They didn't pull a George. It's actually REALLY COOL.
(If only Black Mesa would HURRY UP!!!!!)

{Also here's some neat-ness I discovered. If you should so feel like it- The Jedi Academy Console commands STILL WORK. You can give "Young Kyle" the "Old Jedi Kyle" his force powers ("playermodel Kyle") ("setforce____ 3" example: setforcelightning 3" setforceall 3"), saber ("saber kyle" "saber single_1, saber single_1 single_2" "saber dual_1"), turn him into Luke ("playermodel Luke"), etc. And as far as I saw, changing Kyle back to DF Kyle ("playermodel player") did work so you were still lore-friendly young Kyle, but had stumbled onto a shiny Light Sword that's really effective in dismembering Stormtroopers. ("g_saberrealisticcombat 3" or "5") If you know those commands, try them out. It's fun playing Dark Forces again: With LIGHTSABERS. And YES- you can try playing in 3rd person if you like. It is Modded on Jedi Academy.}

That is the link to the mod's entire site, and has the download there. I remember it being around 400-500 MB, so that should tell you Dark Forces got a lot SHINIER.
