ABOUT Muon Verified

Play LAN Multiplayer games on the go!

Muon is a Decky Loader plugin turning the Steam Deck into a hotspot (ad-hoc) establishing guest connections between Linux handhelds, Laptops and PCs, allowing for offline wireless LAN Co-Op, LAN PvP game-play and hosting Dedicated Servers with some titles!

This isn't just for the plugin, but also to highlight LAN and multiplayer games that can be played offline without an internet connection!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation

Download Muon
from the Decky-loader storefront!

or

The Verification Process

This group recommends games that function
well with Muon and offline use.
Here is how it functions:

Verified:
Direct IP Support or legacy LAN scan functions,
able to directly connect into lobbies.

Playable:
Will require set up using the internet
first for mod installation, an online login
and/or configuration with a separate dedicated server.

Unsupported:
Steam Networking API, Anti-Cheat Systems or
Publisher Servers requiring ever-present
logins/internet connection - blocking offline and LAN support,
direct IP bar fails to find host server.

Unsupported games subject to change depending on workarounds and community mods discovered by the admin or members.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Submit your tests

If you intend to do testing, please submit your findings in the
"COMMUNITY TESTS" pinned thread in the discussions tab:

Verifying games will be using Muon version 0.2.1,
you can use another device that isn't a Steam Deck for Testing as long as the guest is running SteamOS or BazziteOS and has Wi-Fi capabilities,
For Example:

Host:
Steam Deck LCD with SteamOS

Guest:
SteamOS (Beta) on GMKTec AMD 5825U Nucbox M5

--- DO NOT use the same account for offline tests ---

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can try this plugin as a workaround for unsupported titles.
We do not condone this method as it bypasses Steam’s Networking API violating terms and agreements in the process, this option is intended only as a last resort.
We made one acceptation with Resident Evil 5, it is listed as "LANFix" in the informational label section as proof of functionality.
However, tutorials and links related to "LANFix" will be removed completely when Steam Networking API allows offline multiplayer or a Cease & Desist from Valve or another publisher is thrown our way.

RECENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Muon 0.2.1 - Now on Decky-Loader Official Storefront!
Hi everyone,
Apologies for the longest silence.

After a whole year of development.
We're happy to announce that muon 0.2.1 is officially on the decky-loader store front, no longer on the testing build branch!
We wanted to wait before annoucing it here incase future SteamOS updates broke the build – thanks to the people submitting issues on github to narrow down the causes!
This version has improved on a lot of the foundation the previous builds had, we hope that this version remains stable with every new SteamOS build.

That isn't all,
I'm happy to celebrate over 121 games reviewed!
With 71 games that function,
12 games that can be modded, accessible through online logins first or run the steam deck as a dedicated server.
Then 38 games which sadly don't work due to backdoor always online server requirements.

The list is still growing as more workarounds and discoveries are found, ensuring a decent variety of genres are supported for all kind of player's interests.

Finally, one last thing.

Steam isn't the best as of now for quick and easy access to setup information.
While Muon has remained stable, we’ve took time to develop something very benefitial, a Muon Compatibility website!

https://wtlnetwork.github.io/muon-docs/

This website is the equivalent to ProtonDB but for Offline LAN games that can work on the go.

The website includes:
  • Easy and quick glances of games that work and don’t work
  • List of max players able to join games (we still recommend sticking to 8 players)
  • Drop down guides for infromational games
  • Search bar for titles
  • Direct links to the games and QR codes (if you need to buy/download them via Mobile Phone)
  • Games not listed on Steam can now be added on the website.

We’ve added Goldeneye: Source on the website under Informational, GE:S on Linux doesn’t work online, however it DOES work through LAN!

The Muon Docs isn’t a replacement for what we have here however – I will be making sure to simutaliously add and edit games on both places.

Our next Muon build 0.2.3 will be focusing on intergrating the Muon Compatibilty Documents into the plugin as a optional button under Edit Wi-Fi Settings.

We will also be looking to impliment a way for the Docs to be stored (offline caching) and it will automatically update the docs when you connect back online.

That’s all for now, thank you all for showing dedication and interest in this little plugin!

Stay safe out there!

Decky-loader store pre-release Out Now! (0.1.6.2)
Muon ad-hoc Wifi is now avaliable in the decky-loader store under the testing build!

To access the pre-release store on decky:
  • In the Decky sidebar, click 'Settings' (gear icon).

  • In the General tab, go to the 'Store Channel' section and switch it from 'Default' to 'Testing'.

  • Return to the plugin sidebar and click the 'Marketplace' button next to 'Settings'.

  • You’ll now see a list of W.I.P. plugins; scroll down to 'M' until you find 'Muon'.

  • Install Muon.
We're working on bug fixes. However, we’ll be taking a break from releasing updates for the next four months (returning in December) as we initiate conversations with other plugin developers.

Thank you again for joining the Steam Group.

Stay safe out there!
