Of course the problem is that not enough people were ready to get into the game the first time around, when the ambitious original got trampled to death in the 2008 Christmas games rush.
Speaking to website Spong, DICE’s Patrick Liu said that, ‘We see that there's a huge fan following, it's almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we'd know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there's a market there.’
The original game cast you as parkour expert and courier deliver Faith, and was not only one of the few games to make the concept of a first person platformer work (more or less) but it’s unusual art style also endeared it to fans.
It wasn’t so huge a flop that EA were ever dead set against a sequel, but their commitment to giving the idea another go has always been a little vague. Although earlier in the year bossman Frank Gibeau did admit that, ‘We’re actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way’.
What changes EA might demand for the new game we’re not sure but hopefully giving it a release date where it won’t be immediately lost within a morass of sequels and licensed games will be their first course of action.
