"Nadako's Minced Pie" was the name of my recipe.

You sharpen the knife. Until it gleams. Until it sings in the air when you brandish it. And then you...

Chop chop chop. The onions apart. Into little pieces. Drizzle it with oil. Heat the pan. Drop it in. Hear it scream and sizzle.

Mix the cornflour and the stock. Make it gooey.

Now... collect the meat from the grinder. Wet and cold and sludge-like. Seeping through my fingers. Ahhh... Senpai's meat~.

Hear it crackle in the pan as it browns. Add the paste and flavorings. Mask the flavor. Mask the lies. Hear it bubble away in anguish. Watch it boil away the misery.

And then let it simmer...

Heat the oven. Grease the pan. Line it with raw pastry. My prison. Pour it in... pour it in. Seal it away with egg and seasoning. Hide it from everyone's eyes.

Place it into the oven until golden.

And now... we serve.

[Some time later...]

My heart jackhammered against my chest. The door's lock clicked. It hovered open. I resisted the urge to scream.

"Oh, it's you, Inoue. Morning~."

Senpai... his morning smile is so radiant. I could feel my legs turn into wet noodles. Blood rushed to my cheeks. My mouth became paralyzed by his greatness.

"Ah! Is that another pie for me? Eheh... I guess you heard about the break-up already. Sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Still, I really appreciate it! I mean..."

He is apologizing to me... it feels so nice. This warmth inside of me. As my heart desires to explode from my chest. I nod robotically. I hand Senpai the gift I made all by myself. He touches my hands... these hands I have never washed ever since the first time.

"It smells delicious. Freshly baked goods always win me over... I'm glad we can still be friends, Inoue. I know things didn't work out between us back then, but I want you to know that I appreciate everything you do, Inoue. I mean it~."

"T-t-thank you... s-senpai..."

"Anyway... Mutsumi will be over soon, so I need to get ready."

"M-Mutsumi?"

"Oh, yeah... she's been comforting me since the breakup. So we're gonna study today. I hope you don't mind..."

I shook my head. He bid me farewell. And I left...

I'm so happy. So happy I could die right now. But no... I cannot die. I will not die. I have a mission. And that mission... is to ensure Senpai's happiness. Yes... his happiness is the only thing that matters in the world. Even if Senpai wishes to spend his life with another girl... aaaaah... how terrible~... for me~... to only wish for his happiness. I will support him no matter what...

I am home now. Mutsumi... she will be his seventh since me. I hope she can make him happy. I hope she is the one. Though... just in case...

I sit down and start writing a new recipe. "Mutsumi's..."
