Justin Drew Bieber (born March 1, 1994 in London, Ontario)[1] is a Canadian pop and R&B singer.

His career began with covers of well-known songs that his mother published as videos on YouTube, which caught the attention of Scooter Braun and signed him. In 2008, he rose to prominence with the release of the seven-track EP My World. He became a child star with his debut album My World 2.0, released in 2010, when the album topped the charts in Canada and the USA, among other places, making him the youngest singer to top the US charts since Stevie Wonder in 1963.[2] His second studio album, Under the Mistletoe (2011) was the first Christmas album by a male artist to debut at number one in the US.[3] His third studio album, Believe, released in 2012, became the sixth-best selling album worldwide of that year.[4] After the album Believe Acoustic released in early 2013, Bieber became the first and youngest act in the US to have released five US number one albums by the age of 18.[5] After Believe, Bieber was involved in several controversies and lawsuits between 2013 and 2014 that ended his previously scandal-free public image.[6]

Bieber's studio album Purpose was released in 2015. This was preceded by the EDM song Where Ü Now, for which Bieber received a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.[7] Featuring singles Love Yourself, Sorry and What Do You Mean? Bieber became the first UK solo artist to occupy the top three spots in the UK Singles Chart at the same time.[8]

Bieber received a Latin Grammy Award for the 2017 remix of Despacito.[9] Two years later, he received the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the song 10,000 Hours, produced with Dan + Shay.[10]

Following the release of studio albums Changes (2020) and Justice (2021), which also topped the US charts, Bieber broke the record previously held by Elvis Presley since 1965 with eight US number one albums. [11]

Bieber is one of the artists with the most sold records worldwide. In addition to those Grammy Awards, he has received numerous other awards and broken records: Among other things, he has received 21 MTV Europe Music Awards and 23 Teen Choice Awards, which no one has achieved before him. Bieber also holds 32 Guinness World Records. In 2021, he broke the age record for a singer previously held by Drake with 100 released songs, all of which reached the top US chart.[12]
