I have a hard time finding games that can keep my interest and so mods are becoming a greater part of my gaming interests. Many times when I do find a game that is interesting it is a rare gem and similar games are difficult to find. Mods make the existing games that are already good even better by adding longer and new stories. Story isn't the only thing that mods add though. Fallout 3 and New Vegas both have many mods that add updated graphics, updated UI, and updated gameplay mechanics. Guns, vehicles, clothing, pets, characters, and houses are some of the many new additions to be found in many of the moddable games. Dragon Age has a huge mod comminty for those interested in continuing that world and so does Skyrim. None of these mods will cost you anything to use either. This is pure fan love giving back to the games that they adore. It is about sharing in new rich experiences not getting rich off microtransactions. Nexus Mods has a really good mod manager that will do most of the work for you too. It makes getting into modding easier for those that don't know a lot about their computer. This is one of the better parts of the indie game scene and can really add a lot to the games we all love.
