ABOUT The Haiku Curator

Word Play and Game Recommendations

I'm Dan Stern, Playism's senior content manager. What is Playism, you didn't ask? I'm glad I asked for you! Playism is an Osaka-based, international publisher of indie games. Our main dig is getting folks' games to new places and in front of new people, and especially helping Japanese indies bring their games to the western world. By necessity we do a lot of localization between English and Japanese.

A big part of my job is playing mountains of games and gauging how well Playism would suit them as a publisher, and how well the game would suit our portfolio. When I'm not playing games for work I'm playing for fun, as I have for about thirty years now. I'm lucky enough to know many interesting folks in games and to engage the industry in both English and Japanese. I think these things give me an unique perspective on games.

I've started this group to have fun =) I've found that haiku is a versatile and inspirational format for writing silly, funny and sometimes surprising things about games.

I also started it because too many curators write bland short-form reviews. Our age is one of wealth and plenty with regard to information. For sure, I'll be endorsing games I think you should play and I may accidentally tell you something useful, but information on games is everywhere. If you find yourself entertained by these haiku, please do check out the games and let's all support the creators making these amazing experiences.

While I'm not doing this project in direct relation to my work, I do want to be transparent about coming at this from a publisher's perspective. Just FYI =)

The Haiku Curator reviews
"Games of almost any type so long as they achieve excellence in whatever they attempt. I do love strategy, RPG, 2d & 3d action, souls-likes, shmups, and anything else with incredible story-telling."
