The other animals humans eat, use in science, hunt, trap, and exploit in a variety of ways, have a life of their own that is of importance to them apart from their utility to us. They are not only in the world, they are aware of it. What happens to them matters to them. Each has a life that fares better or worse for the one whose life it is.

That life includes a variety of biological, individual, and social needs. The satisfaction of these needs is a source of pleasure, their frustration or abuse, a source of pain. In these fundamental ways, the nonhuman animals in labs and on farms, for example, are the same as human beings. And so it is that the ethics of our dealings with them, and with one another, must acknowledge the same fundamental moral principles.

Vegan's INSIDE short essay game giveaway!

Edit: Thanks to those who submitted entries! I'll announce the winner on Tuesday evening 5/30/2017 around 5 PM (U.S. Central time)!

Hey, everyone! In order to celebrate reaching over 1,000 members, we'll be holding a short essay game giveaway this weekend. INSIDE is the game we'll be giving away (via Humble Bundle link) to the person whose essay we are most fond of. As only a short essay is required, we'd appreciate it if writing is kept between 1-3 paragraphs and please, only one essay per person. Since the administrator and moderators who will be reading the essays primarily speak English, we can only accept essays written in English. We're very sorry for any language related inconveniences! However, we'll mostly be looking at the content and won't really be worried about grammatical errors.

The topics for the essay are as follows:

1. What do you love most about being vegan?

2. What do you admire most about veganism?

You all will have until Sunday 5/28/2017 at 11:59 PM (U.S. Central time) to submit your essay before the discussion thread is locked. Essays will be submitted publicly in the discussion thread located here: https://v1.steam.hlxgame.cc/groups/I_am_vegan/discussions/0/1290691308573382027/

Since we'll need time to go over each essay, the winner will be announced in both the discussion thread's original post and in a separate announcement on Tuesday evening 5/30/2017 around 5 PM (U.S. Central Time). Once the winner is announced, they should send a friend request to me, Rhysie, by the end of the week to receive the Humble Bundle link. If the winner doesn't send me a friend request by the end of Sunday 6/4/2017 (U.S. Central time), then another winner may be chosen instead. Remember, the winner will need to add me, I will not be adding them.

This means no bigotry (including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.), no jokes about abuse or assault as these are not funny matters and let's show general kindness and compassion to each other and to ourselves.
