ABOUT FCKDRM

The DRM Free Initiative

This group is for fans & enthusiasts of DRM Free media

DRM, or Digital Rights Management, is essentially corporate regulation of digital media and what customers do with this media. Typically these regulations limit the number of installations/downloads/activations one can do on a device (or devices) within a certain time, constantly check for an internet connection (Always Online), and a variety of other frequently bothersome limitations that negatively impact customers.

It is for this reason that DRM Free/Digital Rights activism exists, to push against these corporate regulations that are hostile to customers, and to the public at large. Not only that, but folks fight for the removal of DRM because this corporate regulation impedes preservation of digital media, as often to do so risks legal battles with corporations.

For more information on the negative impacts of DRM, feel free to check the following link:
The Electronic Frontier Foundation's brief article on DRM.[www.eff.org]

Members of this group are eligible to create and edit group events, announcements, choose player of the week, invite guests to their private chatroom, review games and add comments on, or create new threads for discussion. We hope you'll enjoy your time with this group! Also, please spread the word about DRM Free media and feel free to invite people to join the group.
~Thank you!

We do not, in any way, shape, or form, endorse GOG, Itch.io, Humble Bundle, or any sites that offer DRM Free products; nor do we support or encourage harassment of those with less anti-DRM views. We are simply an informative group.

Notice to Developers!
This group curates games on an informational basis only, which is to say we do not write up extended reviews evaluating your game in any way. Members of the group may do so on their own time and through their own accounts, but please do not feel inclined to send FCKDRM copies of your game expecting any sort of curator review recommending or not recommending your work.

At most, feel free to give us notice that your game does not include any DRM whatsoever, and we will curate your game accordingly as to where it is available without DRM (including if it is on Steam itself). Thanks for your interest, and may your work go well!

RECENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
May begins upon a hill with goo, fire, and crows
  • Crow Country
  • World of Goo 2
  • Breath of Fire IV

Breath of Fire IV is especially noteworthy as part of GOG's recent preservation program[www.gog.com] effort for older games, calling back to the storefront's original mission.

Also shoutouts to people continuing to curate games, and apologies for not being more active personally. Up till recently I've simply been playing games less, and what few I have haven't been on Steam to start with (or have only been recently added).

That reminds me, old yet still worthwhile news to mention, a few DRM free and open source classics arrived on Steam awhile ago:

The Powder Toy, remember falling sand games? They never went away!

The Classic Marathon Trilogy, in case the new Marathon has you bummed out, the classics have been lovingly maintained by their community. In fact, there's even still new content being made for these games to this day![simplici7y.com]

Hope you've all been well, and enjoy the weekend!

Square Enix Removed Denuvo From Three Titles
Now someone just needs to remind them they made Left Alive and are bizarrely still paying for Denuvo on it and we could add a fourth to the list, lol

Hope these last couple announcements find you well!

GOG is good but so is Zoom-Platform. https://www.zoom-platform.com/

Has anyone on the group checked on the updated [list] (https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_big_list_of_DRM-free_games_on_Steam) of drm-free games on Steam? One of the newer entries is Jedi Fallen Order (I'm not kidding).

Isn't it kind of ironic to have an anti-DRM group on a platform for PC's biggest DRM distributor or is that the joke? Hehe. :battler: :cocochan2:

Don't get me wrong, I hate DRM cancer, Steam included. :nekoheart:

I hope you are correct, since we have put effort in finding each game.

Well, the review limit used to be 500 but has been quietly lifted when a number of high profile curators started hitting it a lot in 2018. I guess with the growth rate of Steam's catalog, that 1K limit will be lifted too at some point. :happyotus:
