The Etruscans were the major Italian Civilization before the Romans. The Etruscans grew in siz around the 7th BC, around the founding of Rome and influenced the Roman empire in areas such as Art, language and warfare. Even the foundation of Rome is shrouded in Etruscan myths. Remus was killed after he jumped over a sacred wall and the city was founded on the Palantine hill. This found suggest that Rome was founded by Etruscans. Rome stayed firmly under Etruscan influence until in 396 BC, the Roman army sacked the city of Veii the civilization fell into dissaray and soon after melted into the Roman empire.
