When you understand how human memory works, you’ll able to use it to get out of awkward situations,
For example, I just hit my neighbors trash bin with my car while I was trying to reverse. I did this right in front of my dad which pissed him off

I will now go on to NEVER mention this again, never mention trash cans for a few weeks or even me driving, none of it, IN HOPES that this situation doesn’t stick to his long term memory, and make it something he permanently remembers

You see when you are reminded of something that has happened, even if you are reminded only two hours later, that information is much more likely to then be stored in your long term memory, making it permanent

So if we understand this, we can prevent this, by simply never mentioning the situation again
