BRF Description

The BRF is a reconnaissance unit within the British Army. BRF Operators act as the Brigade commander's eyes and ears typically operating ahead of the Brigade's front line, often deep behind enemy lines, where they perform advance force reconnaissance operations and mark out drop zones (DZ) and helicopter landing sites (HLS) for use by Brigade forces.

BRF Operators may be inserted up to a week ahead of the main force, usually in 4-man teams. The men of the BRF Dismounted Patrols platoon are skilled in covert insertion, concealment and intelligence gathering. BRF patrols may be parachuted or helicoptered into position. They may also insert by vehicles, usually heavily armed UKF EWMIK Land Rovers, or more recently, UKF MWMIK Jackals.

BRF Operators are highly skilled in insertion by parachute, including HALO and HAHO techniques. They use BT80 multi-mission parachutes and the High Altitude Parachutist Life Support System which provides oxygen when jumping at high altitude.

The BRF is around 14-men strong. It is a tri-service unit, open to anyone over 16, although many of its members come from the 4th Dragoons. Although not technically a Special Forces unit, the levels of discipline and skills required of BRF Operators are close to, if not entirely comparable to, SF.

We also operate an armoured warfare aspect to the game were our brigade recce force is deployed to Formation reconnaissance regiments, as the name would indicate, are intended to provide Armoured Reconnaissance for a higher-level formation, usually a division or a heavy brigade. In a large-scale defensive operation, they would delay attacking forces, whilst screening heavier units as they moved to engage the enemy. The regiments are, currently, almost entirely equipped with vehicles of the CVRT.
