Technê is an ancient Greek word, referring to the knowledge of a practical subject, such as in the art of living well (in ancient Greece and Rome, Stoicism). Here, it refers generally to the knowledge associated with both playing well and living well. We take video games as an ideal environment for the development of this art due to the clearly quantified progress and feedback. Do not be mistaken, we aspire to play well and achieve excellence. However, this is not an end but rather a means to develop excellence in life generally. We hope to attain this end by way of virtue (in the Stoic sense, vaguely meaning excellence, originally arête). Here virtue is distinguished as a grouping of wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice.
