This group is the unofficial center on Steam for any people from the old Tactics Arena community who want to reconnect or newcomers who have never heard of it!



Tactics Arena Online was a turn-based strategy board game created in October 2003 by Digital Seed Entertainment (DigiS). Sharing a handful of aspects with Chess, Tactics Arena was a profoundly deep strategic game that offered nearly limitless variety in playstyles and outcomes. Throughout it's lifespan, Tactics Arena garnered a large community for its time, both in game and on its official forums. It is not known why the game was shut down and abandoned by DigiS, but it is theorized that the decision might have been influenced by the sharp decline in support for Flash programs or because it became less profitable in the later years when it received fewer updates.




There are currently several TAO projects being maintained, planned or developed. If you were a member of the community pre-2016, you may be relieved to know that great effort has been made to bring back what was lost from the old days.



Revival of Tactics Arena Online

Using salvaged assets from the original flash game, BrutalRage has been reconstructing the game from the ground up as an open source JavaScript project using HTML5 and WebGL (Github repository can be found here[github.com]). The goal of this project is to bring TAO back to life without any changes to rules or gameplay mechanics.

Once he's done building this revival project, he plans on beginning development of his own completely new strategy game that will take inspiration from TAO.


Bringing back and hosting the old community forums

Several members of the old community have worked to recover data that was lost when the old official forums went offline. There is still much work to do, but anyone who wants to revel in the nostalgia of the old forum experience can do so here[www.taoforums.com].
