Let's MIX!

I will begin by noting:

This group, its members, and/or participants are in no way affiliated with Cakewalk.

I am a 30 year recording engineer and old-school audio guy. I found out in the last few years about the changes in this industry, and was dazzled. I once considered myself on the cutting edge of technology when I spent way more money than I had in order to open my first recording studio. What cost me tens of thousands of dollars then, would now cost me only a few thousand at best. What cost me a few thousand now, would have cost me millions then.

I kid you not.

So, let's all Mix!

Here's how this works:

1. You must join the group in order to receive access to the raw tracks each week.

2. We will mix tunes (partication is, of course, always optional) each week, posting our work and giving/receiving feedback.

3. There will be special monthly "contests" where teams will be formed, and other particular special conditions for additional mixes will be had. I do, as it turns out, have a good number of games to give away on Steam, so if you're into that sort of thing, then winning those contests has a secondary purpose!

4. That's about it. I want feedback and ideas, and more than anything, before the weekend is out, will have a forum set up for introductions. I for one would like to know the background and interest of the members of this group.

Make no mistake: This is about improving and learning and studying and having fun. It is also about critical evaluation and feedback so we might improve our art. This is for beginners and veterans alike; having done this for as long as I have, I know now more than ever that I have a TON to learn!

So, who is ready to participate? The first mixing experience will be posted for all interested persons on Monday. Don't worry if you're interested but don't make it in by that time...this isn't an overnight, must join now, get on it, kind of situation. There is always next week's mix to do, and always next month's contest to enjoy and team up on, sometimes!

Between now and then I'll probably rewrite this general Overview of the group a couple times too. All ideas are welcomed.

In the meantime, if you want to mix, learn, enjoy, listen, give and exchange, this is the right place. Let's get something started here!

PS: Oh, you don't have to be a Cakewalk user to participate by any means. It is just that it is the most prominent software on Steam for this purpose. Others, feel free to join us as well, however. That too is a major learning opportunity.
