What are gacha games?

Gacha games derived from capsule toys, which each vending machine holding a set of items and each draw gives you a random item from the set. Similarly, gacha games have many different banners of items for players to pull from.

Gacha games share many similarities with games with "loot box" monetisation, but unlike the latter, they are distinctively seen as games that target towards ACG[en.wikipedia.org]/ nijigen[en.wiktionary.org] subculture.

As with "loot boxes", some may argue that gacha is a form of gambling, but modern gacha games can also be seen as a game of resource management, as they allow players to earn the currency required, as well as having a pity system which guarantees a featured item of the banner on certain number of pulls.
