Serving from 1869 to 1873, Seth Padelford was the 31st Governor of Rhode Island, as well as an ardent abolitionist, and Unitarian, who had ties to the New England Emigrant Aid Company, responsible for arming and organizing settlers who participated in the Bleeding Kansas campaign.
