Campaign Graupel

Background

We have been deployed to the country of Kosovo as a UN Force.

Kosovo is a horrendous mix of allsorts of ethnicity and religions that haven't yet managed to live in peace and harmony since Roman times. Yet again the country has flared up into another war very similar situation to what happened in the late 90’s and early 00’s. The Kosovan army and police can not handle the situation. NATO will not intervene as it is not in their remit. UN now has no choice but to try and bring about peace, due to the UK’s experience in the region as well as experience in Ulster we have been asked to lead the effort.

Situation

All law and order has collapsed. Police and Military has no control over their own country.
No ‘Rebel/Paramilitary’ fraction wants us there, but the civilians need us.
The UN have been informed from the local population and other sources that allsorts of war crimes have been committed this includes:-
Mass murder of people (Ethnic cleansing).
Destruction of religious sites such as mosques and churches of all regions.
Destruction of settlements.
Kidnapping and summary executions.

43 RMC Mission

The UN have given us a mandate.
Protect Civilians. (unarmed, non-uniformed/sided civilians)
Protect Non-combatants. (Wounded, hospitals, press & POW etc)
Protect Aid agencies and their work. (Red diamond, UN persons)
Re-establish law and order (by protecting police and judicial system buildings and personale)

The British government has informed us that we can attack if civilian or UN forces are in danger which is within the remit of the UN mission, as long as all ROE are followed.
We have been assigned to Patrol base Chauffeur is located near a UN airfield and we are to provide overwatch and if necessary defence of the airfield.
43 Royal Marine Commandos are the UN’s only mobile military force in the province.

Intel
At present we have next to no intel on the rebel/paramilitary groups, Since we are the first UN force to deploy local intel is non-existent.
We do suspect that the enemy will be using insurgency tactics as well as guerrilla and conventional.
We also suspect that most of the Paramilitary groups are using criminal activities to fund their war effort.

Mission Summary

Most of the fighting is inter-communities this means that one village hates the neighboring village and will seek to kill them, whether it is because of religion, political beliefs or ethnicity. More often than not we will have no idea who is fighting who but as soon as we are able to fight (within the mandate and ROE) then we will.

Operation Poseidon

43 Royal Marine Commando deployment to the Aegean sea.

Current Situation

The Junta that ruled greece in the 60’s and 70’s was led by Generals of the Hellenic army and they were a far-right Dictatorship with the King of Greece as the figurehead of the regime. During the mid-70’s and because of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus the Greek far-right government fell and was replaced by a Demographic Government. The new demographic government immediately abolished the Greek royal family and forced them out to exile.

Now due to the Greek Debt crisis the newer generation of the Junta are inciting civil revolt and a gaining lots of support from the population as the current financial situation has never looked as bad as now.
Their goals is to:-
Reinstate the Junta
Reinstate the royal family.

The Greek government has declared martial law and moved to fortify the large towns and cities, At the moment the New Junta hold majority of countryside as well as all of the military installations and villages. The Hellenic army hold the major town or cities.
Reasons why the UK Government/Forces are involved
The British government feels obligated to interdict due to the reports of war crime being committed by the “New Junta” - Mass murder of population & execution of POW.
Britain does not want a fascist regime in europe to come to power. Especially one on her border (Cyprus)
UK interests on Cyprus (the fascist could overrun the 3 British bases).

Operation Objectives

43’s mission is to:-
Disrupt the “New Junta” by
a) Eliminate the command structure
b) Cut and destroy all logistics and supplies.
Aid the Hellenic Army.
Gain proof of war crimes committed by the New Junta.
Protect UK interests.

Enemy

“New Junta” Right-wing rebel faction, they hold most of country, they are not well funded hence the eastern-bloc cold war weapons. There are reports of them committing war crime including mass murder and political assassinations. Currently we know nothing about their command structure.

Friendly

“Hellenic army” Due to a decade of government debt their kit is outdated and their military has been reduced to a fraction of the normal size - hence why they can only hold major towns and cities. There has been major defections to the Junta as most of the soldiers are unpaid and have low morale.
Greek Government/Police. are all prime targets of the “New Junta”, but their allegiances can change, we need proof before actioning on their defection.

Unknown

“Red Star brigade” these guys are the popular communist that oppose the New Junta but impartial to the current government. They protect their land and number there are only a few but these guys.
