It was the English Armada. The the Spanish attacked England with their large fleet in 1588.They met with defeat, but not at the hands of the british so much as the weather. They retreated back to Spain, but Sir Francis Drake convinced the queen to attack the Spanish a year afterwards. The British were destroyed, losing 40 Ships.
