Accidental ingestion aside, it's actually recommended to drink a small amount of bleach on certain occasions. When natural disasters and other events impact the water supply and make drinking water unsafe, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend mixing between 0.125 and 0.25 of a teaspoon (0.75 to 1.5 milliliters) of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
