Little Hall Room 230 Be there or be square!

Greetings!
While it has been a while since an update has been posted here, don't fret! The group is still here, alive and well. Moving forward with this Steam group, we'll be doing a little bit of organization for what the Steam group is used for, plus what the Discord is trying to be. So strap in and get ready!

For the most part, the club is running fairly smoothly. Our competitive teams are in full gear for the most part:
Our Overwatch team went 3-7 for the season, which does not qualify them for the continued National level playoff bracket. However, under the circumstances (roster fluidity, skill variation, late registration), it is still worth some praise for how far they've come. Congrats on completing your first competitive season!
Our Counter Strike team is also midway through their competitive season. Currently, they're resting at an 0-3 record. Thankfully, none of the games have been 16-0's (but it's been close). Hopefully, after more practice and dedication, the team will begin to pick up the pace and snag some W's.
Our Rocket League team is fully formed and ready to pounce on the collegiate scene. To my knowledge, they have yet to participate in a tournament. Hopefully they'll be a force to be reckoned!
Our League of Legends team is still looking for their fifth and final roster member. Fortunately, LoL collegiate leagues do not start matches until the Spring semester, so there is still plenty of time to find the right match. If you're interested, be sure to fill out the competitive play form at the bottom of this announcement.

In more casual gaming news, the club is thinking about hosting/paying for some gaming servers for popular games, such as Minecraft. This is still in planning and probably wouldn't be implemented until 2018, but it's definitely something to talk about. If you have any suggestions, be sure to check out the Discord.

In more club specific news, the club will be hosting another fundraiser! For the holidays, the club will be selling pies by the slice or whole in Sweeny Hall next Tuesday the 14th from 11am to 2pm. If you'd like to support the club, you can bake a pie and bring it for the club to sell, help sell the product, or advertise it to people you meet! Every bit counts!

Lastly is the delegation of what both the Discord and this Steam group is for. That hasn't been clear. Up till now, the Steam group and the Discord group have had the same function. Instead, moving forward, the Steam group will be for more gaming specific updates and organization (i.e. a Minecraft server) and the Discord group will be mostly for weekly updates about the club and more social than gaming (i.e. what it's used for now). Both the Steam and Discord group will advertise important things like fundraisers and events, but more specific, niche things will go to their more specific niche group: game related to Steam, social related to Discord. Hopefully this will make the groups more effective at what they're trying to do.

Extending from the last update, we've got some new competitive teams going on! We had enough interest for a full Overwatch team and enough for a CS:GO roster. In fact, our new Overwatch team played Thursday yesterday and won their first match 2-0! The matchup was against Cayuga Community College. The excitement for the team must be high over their first win. May this continue through the season!

If you're interested in joining the Overwatch team as a substitute or roster member, contact Phoenix (Discord: @Phoenix) directly through Steam or the Discord.

As mentioned, we have enough interest for a CS:GO team, which will be starting up soon! For those of you who used the form to show your interest, you should check Discord for more details. If you're interested in any competitive gaming, the form is located at the end of this post. Be sure to check it out if you haven't! Lastly, we are going to be starting up community events soon! As this is the gaming community here on campus, no doubt people want to start playing games with one another, either competitively or casually. One suggestion so far is for something involving Minecraft (like capture the flag, hunger games, or a building competition with prizes) because basically everybody has a Minecraft account. We are open to anything you have to suggest, so if you have an idea or suggestion for what we could do as an event, message NHTI Gaming through Steam or Discord, or talk about it in the discussion thread on Steam. Keep an eye out for some fun gaming events!

Sign-ups for competitive gaming teams is LIVE! If you've ever wanted to compete for college scholarships through video games, now you can! Any games with a collegiate league are considered, as long as there is enough interest in the game through the sign up.

One important thing to add: IF YOU ARE NOT A PART OF BOTH THE DISCORD AND THE STEAM GROUP, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE. PERIOD. So get on that.

Last week a lot of good happened which will help us out moving forward!
During convocation, a lot of interested persons checked out our table and played some Halo 4, which was thoroughly enjoyable to watch. I think it's safe to say that ours was the best table sporting a flatscreen TV (ty Phoenix)! I personally had the pleasure of meeting with and talking to a number of people all interested in gaming. Hopefully I will see them this Tuesday meeting.

Speaking of Tuesday, we are going to start recruitment for online competitive eSports teams! We'll figure out and discuss the details both online and live on Tuesday, so be sure to tune in. Searching about online, there are a number of popular games already involved in the college scene: Overwatch, League of Legends, Rocket League, HearthStone, CS:GO, just to name a few. Check back here for an online form to fill out so we can get you in the registry of interested players!

Lastly, I'd just like to thank everyone who came out on Friday for the Pizza Kart! event. It was a real blast seeing everybody enjoy the past 20 years of Mario Kart in one place. Everybody had their fill of pizza and soda, and I can safely say it was one of the best gaming events hosted at NHTI! Looking ahead, the next event that will be like this will most likely be Pizza Smash!, the semi-serious smash tournament that was held last year as well. In the Discord is a link to a stawpoll so we can better gauge how we want the next event to go.
