Week 12
Slumbering Sun

(Doom Metal)

United States

Albums:
  • The Ever-living Fire (2023)
  • Starmony (2025)

Slumbering Sun is an american quintet that plays some melodic, stoner-ish doom metal. The band's composed of members from a couple different great doom metal bands like Destroyer of Light, Temptress, and Monte Luna, the latter being the only one I had opportunity to feature in a weekly some 6 years ago. Their music resembles Pallbearer if they sounded slightly happier and more melodic, although when they feel like it they'll easily transition more towards sludge and deliver some really good, heavy riffs. Not to take away from the more common melodic tracks mind you, the best ones legitimately feel like a journey. Despite only having 2 albums under their belt as of yet, Slumbering Sun's discography is excellent, and well worth the listen if you're a fan of the genre.

Rifforia

(Thrash/Power Metal)

Sweden

Albums:
  • Axeorcism (2024)

Rifforia is a swedish quartet that plays some thrashy power metal. If the vocals sound familiar, that's because they're provided by Nils Patrik Johansson, better known from bands like Astral Doors and Civil War, who joined the band thanks to his son being the drummer. As far as their sound goes, it's not too dissimilar to the aforementioned bands, it's obviously faster since it leans more towards thrash while both Astral Doors and Civil War are more heavy/power, but still, the core is the same, if you've heard your fair share of power metal then you can understand me when I say it sounds like what you'd expect a heavy/thrash/power metal band to sound like. Their one album is alright, pretty decent as far as debuts go. Not all tracks stand out, and even though (and I do feel a bit bad for saying this) the best song in the album is an Imperiet cover, I do wanna clarify that there's some bangers in there, it is worth a listen if you dig the genre. So, if you enjoy some thrash/power metal and the aforementioned bands, consider giving Rifforia a listen.

What's up everyone?! I don't know why I only just thought to look for a group of people who also like good music haha. If anyone wants to talk music or play some games feel free to add me currently playing a lot of BF6 but I'm usually into anything co-op focused!
