Further info: it's not pirate friendly, but if there's enough demand, I could look into how to protect login info with offline mode. There's a map here:

It's pretty well established, tons of stockpiled resources. Bukkit has multiworld support, so I could set up a new world on a cool seed for you all, and have it entirely separate items-wise from the old one so you don't feel overwhelmed.

I have a SMP building server, PVP disabled. It runs bukkit with a few plugins. Not extremely hardcore, but we don't summon. It's been up 24/7 for 5 months. Is this the kind of thing you're looking for?
