Representing The 360 Community

Message mainly for alpha, vulpes or whoever plays MC with me.
Since im not always on when you need me heres a quick lesson on how to make a MC server (modern day :P)

Step one, Make a Folder on your desktop (can be anywhere else but its easier on the desktop)

Step 2,
Go to minecraft.net -> Click downloads -> then download the file called "minecraft_server.jar (621 KB)" (note that the KB size will change on updates)
Then save that into your folder and double click it once.
a black box type thing will appear and start setting up a world.
When its done this type STOP inside of it and hit enter, this will stop and close the serve safely.

Step 3,
After you have done this you will have a few things appear in that folder you created.
The main ones you will need to look at is:
1. Server Properties
2. A subfolder (default name is world)
This subfolder is the worldname.
3. Whitelist (if you need to use it)
(note that these files should be opened it NOTEPAD) (except the folder :P )

In the server propoerties folder you can change stuff like if mobs can spawn (hostile or peaceful), if the nether is aloud, pvp ect.

These things should only be entered as true or false. Although these will already be filled in defaultly.
now for the "Server IP="
you need to find out you IVP4.

To do this press start (on windows 7 theres a little search box thingy)
type in CMD and press enter.
In the black box thing that opens up (like how the server does)
type in IPCONFIG and press enter.
You might need to scroll up to you find something near the top that says
IVP4 address. Type this number into your server propoerties file
like this: SERVER IP=192.121.231.2 (<- this number is fake btw but it should look like this)
now you need to portforward, i cant help too much on this but its not really hard anyway.
in the ipconfig thing look at your default gateway for the number in there (should be just below ivp4)
type this number into your browser to take you to your router settings.
On mine i have a thing called Portforawrding and triggering or something.

In there press NEW
NAME : Call it "minecraft server"
server port is "25565"
ip: Type in your IVP4 address.
TCP/UCP setting if you have, if not, then just TCP i guess.

Last step.
Open a notepad file and type in
java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui

Then save it as START.BAT into your folder.
to save it as a batch file

Your done, to start the server double click START.BAT instead of the jar file (this makes it run better)

BUT! for people to join they need your connect IP. DONT give them the IPV4 address. Goto google, type in whatsmyip
and click the first option.
The big number that says YOUR IP IS: <numbers>
thats the number you need to give to everyone else to join.
