Welcome to the Hellheim Server!

The Hellheim Server is a PvP server, first and foremost. That said, we will operate with a gentleman's set of rules, designed to try to enhance everyone's gameplay and eliminate griefing as much as possible. The settings here are designed in a way that the pvp is meaningful, and the crafting is rewarding.

YOU WILL DIE HERE. Period.

You may lose your buildings and other hard work here. Period. If you don't like pvp, or want to be peaceful, that is fine, but I can assure you without question that you will die if you play here. Get used to it. You consent to as much by playing here. Optional light RP is encouraged, but nobody is required to act 'in character' and RP is not to interfere with the PvP gameplay.


**Server Settings & Tweaks**

-2000 skill points, 25x skill multiplier

-Judgment Hour on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday from 8:00-10:00 pmCentral time.

-Server restarts each day at 6:30 am Eastern and 20 minutes before Judgment Hour.

**The Rules**
Quick version:


-Anyone in combat or attacked may yield and shall not be killed. They may be punched once and have their loot taken.

-Each claim has 3 Days protection from Judgement Hour and raiding starting from the day the monument is completed. Attacking another claim will void protection.

-Don't flee from active combat into water. Man up and play the fight out.

**Character/Naming Rules**

No offensive or vulgar names. No swear words or use of racial slurs of any kind.

No numbers, leetspeak, excessive use of caps, strings of repeat letters, references to modern people or memes, or any other ridiculous thing.
Players violating naming policy will be asked to remake their character. Players who fail to do so will have their character deleted.


**Chat & Social Rules**

No spamming global

Keep it respectful. No hate, slurs, or personal insults. We're all mature here. Be angry with enemy characters, not the other players behind the keyboard.
Keep RL political and religious discussion out of it. This is a game, we play to relax. Join a debate team if you want to discuss the latest presidential candidate or the merits of the spaghetti monster.

Act civil and as an adult. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, whining, name-calling and the like will not be tolerated.

Anyone talking or acting in a manner that causes great offense, or causes others to leave the server will be banned. No stalking or harassment.
No acting under false pretense to intentionally exploit game mechanics. (Such as joining a guild with the intention of robbing them.)
Take private conversations or disputes out of Global chat. Use Steam or a social channel like teamspeak.

Roleplay (RP) is optional on this server. Do not expect that people you encounter will RP. Keep RP out of Global chat.
Use Global to coordinate meeting up with others, but once in range of them, switch to Local chat.



**Building Rules**

All objects must be supported, particularly when raiding. See Claim Raiding for details.

No deconstruction of anyone else's placed objects.

Do not steal anyone else's placed monument by finishing the build.
Tree walls that encompass more than 33% of a base's perimeter are not allowed.

All bases must be accessible by foot in at least 1 spot. All walls fully enclosing an area must have a gate or opening.

The fashioning of a base in such a manner that the only way to reach it is teleportation is forbidden.

Terraforming over or under walls is not permitted.
Tunneling under walls is allowed, during JH only. See Judgement Hour for details.



**Combat Rules**

If you are not on a claim, you are freely attackable at any time. CLARIFY: This does not mean you are safe from attack while on your claim, by default. (See claim raiding rules).

Yielding persons shall not be killed, but may be knocked unconscious once. I realize that accidental deaths happens from time to time, but those who show blatant disregard for this rule shall be subject to the ban-hammer or Doom Roll.
Yielding persons who have a public bounty on their head are not subject to the protection of the prior rule.

Any person who is not yielding, during any claim raid, random attack, JH or at any other time may be considered a combatant. If you are killed and wish to remain out of combat to prevent further skill loss or spawn camping, YOU MUST YIELD, and remain so until your attacker has gone. IF YOU ARE DOING ANYTHING OTHER THAN YIELDING, YOU ARE ATTACKABLE AT ALL TIMES.

If you yield, your attacker is free to knock you out once and loot what he chooses.

If you yield to anyone, you may not attack anyone else, including your original attacker for 10 minutes. This is to prevent abuse of no killing of yielded players.

Any player may defend himself or herself from any aggressor no matter what.

Any player may defend or attempt to defend his claim and the resources within the immediate vicinity of his claim, or repel an unwanted visitor who has been told to leave and been given the opportunity to leave, regardless of whether the defender is wearing armor. For this purpose, immediate vicinity of the claim shall be defined as resources (trees, mines, animals, etc.) within 10 tiles of claim edge.

No player may attack another under the guise of trade. We want the economy to work, and for it to work, people must trade. Trading will quickly die if folks feel as they cannot trade with anyone else. This applies to guild members as well. You may not strike a deal, and then have your friends lay in wait along the road.

No combat logging, either on land or fleeing into the water then logging. This includes imminent combat. For anyone who crashes, they must relog as soon as possible, whether battle conditions are favorable or not.

Killing of fresh spawns or anyone who just fell from the sky is not permitted. If you move location (not just looking around) while you are loading into game, you may be assumed to be an active target. To be safe, hands off your controls until your game renders in fully.

No killing of the same person twice within an hour or so. I realize that there are no name plates so it's not overly easy to see who you're attacking off hand, but your cursor and combat log will show, so pay attention. It's really not an excuse.


**Combat and Aggression**

You are an aggressor (in combat) if:
You shoot at someone, hit or miss.
You swing at someone, hit or miss.
You whistle trespass at someone, while they are on your claim, whether they are attacking or not.
You shoot or swing at someone in self defense, hit or miss.
You run directly at someone with your weapon drawn.
You destroy another person's animals or take it when the owner is nearby after the timer expires.
You attempt to run over another person on your horse.
Aggression lasts as long as you are actively pursuing, or otherwise engaged in combat with someone. (behind cover, sneaking to flank, etc.)
Combat is over when you or your opponent(s) die or yield.
Combat is over if you lose your pursuer (heavy forests are a good thing) and you haven't seen eachother for 2 minutes. One must actively be running away. I've had a good many archer fights last an hour or more in heavy trees.
An aggressor may not pray home until combat is over.
You are innocent if:
You have not become an aggressor.
You have yielded to an aggressor.
Innocents may pray home at their leisure, provided you can last the 6 or 8 seconds it takes.
The purpose of defining aggression is basically to limit when home prayer may be used.


**Raiding a Claim**

You may only raid the same claim once every 3 hours. This applies to you, and your guild. This includes JH. You may not raid someone's claim in the 3 hours leading up to JH and then raid them again during JH.

No dropping of dirt on a claim or terraforming outside a claim edge to create a jumpable ramp.
Attackers are out of the battle upon death or fleeing and may not return. This includes JH.
Defenders are out of the battle upon yielding, or leaving the claim and may continue to fight as many times as they wish provided they have not yielded or fled from the claim. If you do not have a bind point at the claim and die, your respawning elsewhere on the map shall be considered fleeing for this purpose.
Once a defender yields, he may be knocked out to be looted.
Repeatedly knocking someone out shall be considered griefing. Collect your spoils and move along.
Defenders who yield, and then rejoin the same battle shall be subject to disciplinary action.
Attackers who die and then rejoin the same battle shall be subject to disciplinary action.
The battle is over once all of the attackers have died or fled or once all the defenders have yielded or fled.
A defender is fair game if he is doing anything but yielding.
If an attacker pursues a defender off the claim, the attacker shall be considered to have fled.
Once the battle is over, if the attackers have won, the attackers have 5 minutes to knock out their captives, take any loot they wish and move along. No hanging around, everyone has stuff to get back to.
You will be considered to be raiding a claim if you become an aggressor toward someone who is on their claim, or has fled into their claim, regardless of whether you are in the claim boundary or not. (Firing arrows from the tree line is still considered a raid.)
If you chase someone to their claim and you have previously raided that claim within 3 hours, you may not continue raiding unless the defender aggresses you. (Whistling, or shoots you from the walls.)
If you aggress someone on your claim, they may raid, regardless of whether it's been 3 hours since the last raid.
Fleeing from claim shall be any intentional act of leaving claim. This shall not include using tree or other cover that is within the vicinity of the claim edge.


**Judgement Hour**


If no defenders are present for JH, attackers should consider another target. The spirit here is to have good sieges, not steal everyone's ♥♥♥♥. That said, this is not a hard rule, and merely a suggestion. Defenders should not log out to avoid conflict during JH.

If all defenders yield, and the attacker is victorious, the attacker shall have the remainder of JH to collect their loot as they see fit.

Any attackers who have died may not return to the battle, as stated above. This includes returning to carry any loot. If an attacking force wishes to loot more than the survivors can carry, a couple people or a cart on standby is recommended. Once a player leaves claim, he may not return for more loot, as this falls under the fleeing rule. Attacking forces may loot what they can carry, via personal inventory or cart.

No razing of buildings or monument unless a formal war declaration has been made and accepted.

Tunneling during JH - The tunnel may not be started any sooner than JH. Breaching tunnels are not allowed to be reinforced, and must be able to collapse naturally within the 2 in game day time frame. Tunneling as a method of base entry should require considerable effort to complete, hence why you only have the 2 hours to get it done. The reason for not allowing any support, is because the defender has no physical way within the confines of game mechanics to fill, or collapse the tunnel.


**Declaring War**

Guilds must declare war upon each other to raze claims.
Only the guild leader may declare war.
War declarations must be made publicly, via these forums.
Sufficient reason shall be given for a war declaration. This is potentially a very permanent outcome, and we will not condone destruction for the sake of destruction.
Once a war declaration is made, the defender shall have 3 days to respond publicly.
Defender may accept the war, declare war mutually, or refuse.
GM will announce the war, and the war will be live for 7 or 14 days from the time of the announcement, depending on the defender's choice.
Accepting the war opens both sides up to wartime rules for the duration of 7 days. Given that attackers can not return to the battle upon death, a confident defender might accept the war in hopes of driving the attacker back and launching a counter attack of their own during the same JH.
Mutually declaring war shall extend the wartime rules to a duration of 14 days.
Declining a war shall cost a tribute, which the attacker then has 48 hours to demand. Tribute shall be something reasonably attainable, given the size of the defender's guild. If the GM feels the tribute is reasonable, the defender shall have 5 days to deliver the tribute to the attacker. If tribute is not delivered, the GM will validate the war and the attacker can proceed.
An attacker who would claim that tribute was not delivered and proved to be lying shall be subject to disciplinary action.
Both attacker and defender may have 1 ally during the war.
Allied attackers must be declared at the time of war declaration, and support must be publicly made by allies in the same post.
Allied defenders must be declared at decision time, within 3 days of the war declaration.
Only the claim declaring war, and the defending claim are allowed to be razed during any wartime JH.
Guilds must wait 7 days after a war to declare war on the same guild again.
Defenders may not avoid war by changing guild leaders, claim names, or any other such shenanigans.
JH During wartime shall be supervised by a GM. Anyone violating the rules of engagement (specifically during JH) during a war will be instantly kicked.
Bold or stupid guild leaders may declare war simultaneously on as many guilds as they wish. If the attacker has an ally for any war, the ally must be the same ally for any simultaneous wars.
During wartime JH, the only players allowed in the conflict are the conflicting guilds and their announced allies, if any.


**Wartime Rules**

During war time, wait times between raids shall be eliminated.
During war time, specifically JH, warring guilds may raze each other's buildings and monument.
Be sparse with declarations of war. As I mentioned above, these wartime rules are potentially quite permanent for the losing side, whether attacker or defender.


**GM Conduct**

GM's are here to ensure everyone plays by the rules, to facilitate gameplay, help with issues, and promote fairness.
Characters that utilize the GM tag are never used for competitive purposes. A GM may use a completely different character for normal gameplay that will never be used for GM purposes.
GM's may not auto-complete any building for a player, unless it is replacing an already existing building that needs to be moved. GM's will only use auto-complete for their own purposes on GM claims.
GM's may not spawn any items into game for non-GM use, unless it is recompense for a result of broken rules, for use during a server event, or for player purchase from the shop.
GM's will not refund skill points or items lost due to any glitch, player created or otherwise. Sorry.
Any GM's found abusing their privilege shall be subject to disciplinary action.
GM decision in any dispute over the rules is final.
GM decision in any other conflict is final.

And Lastly...

If you find a new and creative way of griefing or exploiting, you will be warned, banned or Doom Rolled immediately, depending on the action.

Congratulations if you made it this far. Most of this really is just common decency. It's not a bad set of rules, and I know it seems like a lot, but all in all I really feel like this is a set of rules we can all play by.
