I've seen better...

There are some people who are a little picky when it comes to preferences. Whether it's a certain food, black vs. blue ink, or the political alignment of their dinner guests, these people usually have an opinion on how things ought to be done.

There are others who are a bit more obsessive, whose opinions are strong enough to force them to actively intervene in certain situations, such as the improper application of lip balm, the overuse of the phrase ‘lol’, or occasionally genocide.

Then there is us. Somewhere in between simply having an opinion and actually doing something constructive about it exists an ephemeral region in the geography of the human paradigm. There is too much zeal/disapproval/enthusiasm to let ‘it’ slide, but not enough to intervene. What results, is ‘judgmentalism’, usually outwardly indicated by raised eye brows, pursed lips, flared nostrils, a slight shaking of the head, and/or derisive barking laughter. (For obvious reasons, people wishing to ‘judge’ whilst wearing monocles, either specifically for extra impact, or general bad-assery, should omit the former).

We come in many forms, from the hippy-ish techies and hulking bookworms, to the aristocratic fencing engineer variety, but we are all judges.

We consume very diverse courses, ranging from lychees, grapes, 85% dark chocolate, salt (by itself), pretzels, apple juice, bread sticks and inordinate amounts of lemonade, but we all have some common fares, including the hypocritical, the vain, and the unapologetically oafish.

We are judgmental, but not superficial. We are discriminating, but not discriminatory. We are critical, but not hypocritical (well, maybe a bit…occasionally).

When it comes to judging others, we are the masters. Join us, or don’t. But beware, because we might be judging YOU.
