Welcome!

So I wanted to write something that's less mechanical than the previous entry, and give an example of how flexible roleplaying is. Will may be able to chip in here as a veteran.

Now, I obviously don't want to share a specific encounter from the adventure, so I'll create one--lets say you want to get into a facility. But it's closed off, at least to the likes of you lot. So, how do you get in?

Well, the easy answer is shooting your way in. Lets say there are two guards at the door, and they probably won't be expecting an attack. But if they're professional, or robots, they might be more vigilant. Still, the four of you can probably take out two guards. But what's inside? You have no idea, and now they're ready and on their home turf.

So lets think about alternate plans. The simplest alternative would be to try and talk your way in. Luckily you all speak basic, and several of you have skills that could be useful. If it was Lowhrrick...well, he'd have quite a few setback dice. And might just get angry and rip their arms off.

But this is a roleplaying game, which means if you wanna talk your way past someone, be prepared to actually talk. If you come up with a plausible story, I'll let you roll, as is. If you bumble over your words and give a really weak explanation, I'll probably give you a setback die. But if you really nail your explanation and presentation, I'll probably give you a boost die.

Of course, one seemingly unarmed man or droid might be able to get in, but 4 people, toting weapons? You're gonna have to have a very good and situationally appropriate story to pull that off. But keep thinking--how else could I stack the odds in my favor? Is there an external A/C unit you could sabatoge? On Tatooine that might be especially effective. That, coupled with a disguise or something, and some slick talking, could very well get you several boost dice and increase your odds.


Or you could try another route entirely. Look for a side door, and try to pick or hack the lock. Roll athletics to try and get onto the roof and look for a way in. Cause a distraction to draw the guards away. The only limitations are your creativity--and then rolling successfully. But the strength of the EotE system is the incorporation of story into the dice. You have a ton of freedom. So think outside the box.

That's all for now. That's all off the top of my head, and it's not remotely exhaustive, but hopefully it gets you thinking. When we start playing I'll be walking a line of helping you learn, but not actually helping you. I'll probably be stingy with hints. But after an encounter I may tell you some alternative things you could have tried, for future reference and to demonstrate the range of options you have. If you can convince me of the validity of your idea, we'll figure out the relevant mechanics and I'll let you try it.
