A national and international news bulletin is presented on the hour and every half hour. National weather reports are presented in the studio or from an outside location on the half hour.

Daybreak replaced GMTV which aired its last weekday edition on 3 September 2010. Daybreak launched three days later. However, the replacement programme has failed to attract the expected audience figures, suffered a drop in advertising revenues and has been the subject of much criticism in the press. Viewing figures since the launch have remained below those of the former breakfast programme GMTV and lag behind BBC Breakfast. Between April-August 2012, Daybreak's viewing ratings recorded a daily average of between 800,000 and 900,000 viewers. On 3 September 2012, two years since the original launch, the programme underwent a total facelift led by Kelly and a refreshed presenting team, new studio and revamped titles and theme music in an effort to revive the flagging format.
