Friendly Group of New Dungeons and Dragons Players

Valross the land of giants, history of this regions lore suggests long ago that the land once belonged to the Elves. Thousands of years of speculation has left the true history of this land unknown to all but its oldest gods and goddesses. Now humans, dwarves and Dragonborn have moved into this land and begun building large settlements and have caused hundreds of wars in the history of the land ravishing the land and damaging many of the natural phenomena that once existed in this part of the world. Most elves now stick to small camps or tiny settlements they set up in the deepest parts of the woods. Elves are considered a rarity in these lands as they have no greater city or town to call home.
The center of the map is home to one of the largest forests ever recorded by the college of evocation. This forest is simply known to the locals as the Forgotten Forest. This forest is home to many treants whom normally attack travelers on sight. Although the deepest parts of the forest are a danger to any normal traveler the less dense surrounding area is often home to bandits, goblins and occasional orc who steal from the nearby human towns and seek hiding in the forest. A well-known town named Windenburg has suffered many attacks from bandits in the past and has established a small army named the Honors Guild, These soldiers swear an oath that signs their lives away in order to hunt and kill any criminals that dare break the law. If a member of the guild does break this oath they will receive death as their punishment. The entire outskirts of the forgotten forest are a constant battle between the Honor Guild and the Thieves Guild. This war rages on as the Thieves take hiding in the trees and reap the benefits of simple travelers and small towns.
To the immediate south of the Forgotten Forest lies a small mountain range known as the Avaline Mountains. Here lies a Dwarven City simply named Avaline, after the sun goddess herself. It is widely known that this city was built at the top of the mountain so the dwarves could be as close to their goddess as possible. The Dwarves run a standing tradition of Monarchy and have a royal bloodline that dates back many generations. Generally the Dwarves do not like many outsiders in their cities but with a new war on the horizon as the Orcish move up into the mountains in search of military resources a tension between races mounts quickly. The Dwarven city has a great wall built around it that no army has ever broken. However the Orc are vicious, hard headed and persistent. Many of the people of Valross fear another war may be on the horizon.
Just West of the mountain of Avaline lies the desert known as Neried’s Plain. This desert was once a lush forest like the rest of the land. However many years have passed and nothing left of this forest exists except for a single oasis that lies at the exact geographical center of the desert. This oasis being the only reliable source of water for many miles has become a stopping point for hundreds of travelers in the past. Slowly a great city-state named simply Neried grew out of the sand. This city is the largest of any in Valross and is a center point for delegation, research and religions throughout the land. A vast army named the Knights of Sand protect this land with the fiercest warriors of the human race trained at a young age to have no mercy when it comes to protecting this city. Many factions reside in this city like the Druids of the Coast, The College of Evocation and the Priests of Garen to mention a few. Each has a rich history and goals of their own. The city is also a center of politics due to so many factions so a court house stands tall in the center of the city that settles the larger decisions made by each faction to ensure the cities best interests is always ensured.
