Arcadia is a part of Greece. Only 102035 habitans, but before Jezus Christ was born was this a very important place.

Due to its closed position (in antiquity the only Greek landscape to land bordered) offered the historic Arcadia residents little chance of survival: large-scale agriculture is virtually impossible, the majority of the population lived as a shepherd and many Arcadians sought their fortune elsewhere as mercenaries (compare with the Swiss later).

In modern times, the area is still very affected by desertification and land flight. Travelling by Arcadia notice that many villages are deserted and hove to, as it were reduced to the status of ghost villages. Tourists choose Arcadia only very occasionally as a destination in itself. This area is a small number of people are still the minority language Tsakonisch, based on the Doric spoken.

In Greek mythology, Arcadia, the birthplace and favorite residence of the god Pan and half animal hunting ground for Artemis. Herakles performed some of his works and even in historical time, there were signs of child sacrifice in the worship of Zeus Lykaios (literally Zeus-of-the-Wolves). Arcas also plays a role as a leader of the Arcadians.
