Australian UT2004 Group

Unreal Tournament 2004 may just be the best FPS ever created. Some others come close, but none truly manage to replicate its speed, balance, and overall the pure levels of fun. Even the best FPS' around tend to have cheap abuses in them which, for people who don't want to use these borderline-exploits, make the game extremely unfun.

Unreal 3 came close but it lost in several aspects. Modability, the removal of the double-dodge-jump, and most unforgivably, the removal of my precious Lightning Gun.

As far as I can see, many people agree with me. Furthermore it seems that the only reason that nobody plays UT2004 anymore is that... Nobody plays UT2004 anymore.

For this cause I've created this group. Hopefully it can help Australian players actually find some other people playing the game and get in on it. Even if it's just for the odd 1v1, ganging up on the bots or using them to pad out Assault Mode, hopefully this group can get some matchmaking done.

So tell your friends, and get them to tell their friends, and boot up the old girl, because it's been far too long since my Lightning Gun blew up some skulls.

Lost your copy years ago? Now's a great time to buy it, it's cheaper than ever. Never owned it? Shame, you sorry excuse for a gamer. Now is the perfect time to buy it, pretend you owned it all along, and scratch your inexperience up to lack of practice.

Yeah, so, uh, I can't play this week...

... Or the week after.

Yeah, I know, it's pretty bad for the group's founder to neg out like this, but I went from 'unemployed' to 'working 10 days over the next 11 days' in the space of literally the 3 hours it took for the guy to schedule an interview, have the interview, then subsequently hire me on the spot. This happened on Monday so ♥♥♥♥'s been sorta hectic.

It's just a temp position though so as much as it's a pain in the ass, it's not worth rescheduling the game time for. I still encourage people to play; GameArena, surprisingly, STILL runs UT2k4 servers. They seem to run on nonstandard maps so there'll be a wait before each game while everyone downloads the maps, which is a pain, but they're fast servers (being local and dedicated and all) so it'd probably be worth it. Certainly less ping than what we'd be getting with me hosting a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ server from my comp, while playing no less.

Even if I was to reschedule, I don't get home 'till 8pm (9 if you include rushing to the kitchen to stuff my face) and I don't want to exclude the couple of people who have to wake up for classes/work very early and thus wouldn't really be able to play for more than about an hour at that time, if even that.

Anyway, personal ranting aside, Thursday after next I'll be right back into it. Hell, maybe that'll even give us time to get a few more members, and for a few more existing members to actually get/find the game.

Oh, while I'm on the subject; INVITE PEOPLE. Nineteen is badass of the week for being the first person other than me to get someone to join. Seriously, even just ask Aussie friends if they're interested. I'd say "as long as they're not asshats," but we already have Autobromatic so it's a bit late for that standard.

Man, today's game was, without a doubt, the most fun I've ever had in my life, bar none. There were so many people, I didn't even know most of them. We filled up ALL of GameArena's servers. There must've been about a hundred of us.

Geeze. So good. Such a shame you weren't there, seriously. You missed out on a lot of fun. Next week I guess.
