Rebirth

You jolt awake suddenly. You have no recollection of where you are, or how you got here. Vague memories float across your mind's eye... a home ..a job .. A special outing alone, or with a loved one? A bright flash of light and then... Horror. Your mind draws quickly away from that thought, but not before you see a flicker of a face, tortured, in agony. Blood. Yours? Or even worse... that of a loved one.. You stand shakily, and quickly take note of your condition. You are nearly naked. But you do happen to have a backpack strapped haphazardly over your shoulder. your attention is immediately drawn to a small device in a side pocket of your pack. It's a GPS with local mapping features. It even has an emergency radio. How fortunate! Scattered around you, you find a bottle of water and a can of food. It will prove useful. A small nugget of coal and a nearby stick makes a handy torch come night-time. The noises beyond your sight are enough to curdle your blood. But you're a survivor. You always have been.

Knowing with assurity that your previous life experiences are far beyond you now, you take a deep breath and prepare your mind with thoughts of survival. Like a Phoenix, rising from its ashes of an age before, you raise your head proudly and dare whatever is out there to do its worst. Because you are about to do yours! Welcome to your Rebirth!
