I can't deny that I had some fun at the beginning.
The game and the characters look stylish and the story and lore are nice. The somnium itself while not giving anything revolutionary in terms of gameplay has branching paths. Later, even more investigation mechanics are introduced.
A few hours in however you may start to notice some problems.
The somnium has a time limit and mechanics related to that, which are interesting at first, but also feel pointless. You can restart it without any penalties, there are no new story paths for failing it, not even a dead end. All the sections like this (at least those which I've seen) split into two ways max if split at all.
Again, from what I've seen the choices in somnium are the only way the story branches. I haven't seen any choices during other sections of this game - the investigation parts are completely linear. You don't even need to think about what evidence to present to the suspects - just click on them one by one and the problem is solved. Searching a crime scene? You can't move on until you find every clue, and there is also no effort involved - just move the cursor and click if it changes.
But all that is manageable. I sill was able to enjoy it. What broke me was how characters act, let's say, suboptimal when the plot requires it - they may ignore the evidence or the lack of them, you can't search certain things that you can in other routes for no apparent reason.
The most frustrating part - classified sections. It's not the first game with dead ends, dead locks and so on which I've played. But it always was clear what's blocking you. The most obvious - the protagonist's death, or maybe the protagonist or the player don't have enough info to go on. How did I get the first lock screen here? A new victim appeared, I found a new piece of evidence related to the victim and the killer's identity. That's it, game over, play some more of the other routes to see how this one continues. Why? Don't want to spoil the true ending too soon? Cool! But could you implement it better.
I wanted to go on, started some other routes, but the annoyance was growing with every line of dialog.
I don't want to spoil stories from other titles here, but I'll just say that I've seen other games release more than a decade ago that do similar things better.

Very entertaining and funny.

this game sucks because it doesn't let me swerve date's car into oncoming traffic every time he says something stupid. loved every second of it though.
