There's a very cute, smart puzzle game to be enjoyed here but some of the design decisions really drags the game down. The game counts undoing a step as a step, and from the 0.3 hrs I've played so far, levels will usually have a PAR for the number of steps in order to achieve a star for that level. Thus, if you make a mistake or accidentally press the wrong button, you might as well start the entire level over. That's fine, you're meant to be replaying levels over and over again until you solve them. That's the case, so why make your second star requirement for levels to do it without a restart? You get hit by a beam, why would I want to continue with a failed run? Just cut out the middle man, reset the counter, and start the level over from 0. I WANT to start over from scratch if I make a mistake. If you're having trouble thinking of two other challenges for a level, don't use a three-star achievement system. It takes too much time to start a level over from the beginning. There is no button to start over, and again, you're punished for undoing a step since doing so locks you out of attaining one of the stars for a level. Thus, whenever you make a mistake, you have to pause, navigate the menu to the restart level option in the menu, and then you can restart the level. I'll say this too: the difficulty curve is a bit much just going from level 1-3 to level 1-4. Granted, you're probably meant to do the advancement exam and some other planets before winding back, but having PAR for a level go from 4 steps to 11 is insane. Just highlights even more how aggravating it is the game disincentives you from undoing mistakes and makes restarting levels so cumbersome. This feels like the sort of game where you're meant to die A LOT, but having a menu slap me across the face asking if I want to undo, restart, check my options menu, leave the level, or exit to main menu is a huge waste of my time and adds so much more time between retries.
Another thing: this game does NOT allow you the ability to rebind keyboard controls. If you're playing an a keyboard, it will only display controller buttons, and there's nowhere in the menu that tells you what buttons on your keyboard are bound to what, so for the tutorial, do expect to mash every button on the keyboard until the cute loli on the screen does what she's told.
I'll say this, the game looks cute and reminds me a lot of old Dreamcast games, and the music is very nice and matches the upbeat optimistic future vibe the game is going for perfectly. However, I wouldn't recommend buying this game for $7 solely because of how aggravating it feels to restart levels. Get it on sale and lament what could've been a very cute, interesting puzzle game being dragged down immensely by how backwards the design decisions outside of the puzzles are.
